<p><strong>ABOUT THE EMPOWERMENT EXCHANGE- MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES</strong></p> <p>The Empowerment Exchange - Mental Health Services, located in Troy, New York, provides a <strong>peer support program for adults</strong> in the community struggling with mental illness. The nonprofit organization is primarily an advocacy group with various services designed to help individuals "find their personal power and use their own unique voice.”</p> <p>Established in 1988, the Empowerment Exchange is an arm of the Mental Health Empowerment Project, and is <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY16.pdf" target="_blank">one of 456 New York facilities</a> (about 50 percent) to offer mentoring and peer support services.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The Community Connector Program provides <strong>peer-to-peer outreach</strong> to those who struggle to connect with people in their own communities for help.</p> <p>Individual Advocacy Services provides support on a one-to-one basis to help clients <strong>learn their rights and protect their interests</strong>. Staff help clients work through complicated processes and procedures such as researching information, preparing documents, role-playing potential situations, and attending meetings for support of the clients. </p> <p>Information, training, and <strong>skill-building activities</strong> are offered by the organization, as are monthly <strong>self-help and empowerment seminars</strong> featuring guest speakers. Library resources and technical assistance and training services are also available.</p> <p>Finally, the Peer Support Line is a confidential, <strong>non-crisis support line</strong> run by individuals in all stages of recovery who are available to lend support to others who might be experiencing feeling such as fear, grief, sadness, anger, anxiety, or loneliness. The line is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and offers callers an opportunity to talk through problems, celebrate a success, and/or find information about community resources. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The treatment team is <strong>peer-led</strong> and consists of individuals who are currently receiving or have previously received treatment for mental health problems.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, the Empowerment Exchange earned two four-star ratings on its Facebook page<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> (which it has the ability to manage) and one five-star rating on Google<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small>. Commentary was not provided on either site.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>The one staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the Empowerment Exchange positive feedback. The anonymous reviewer awarded the facility four or five out of five stars in all categories evaluated, including holistic offerings, administrative and discharge procedures, treatment of <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>, and counseling options.
