ABOUT OASAS- RICHARD C. WARD ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER- MIDDLETOWN, NY

The Richard C. Ward Addiction Treatment Center is one of 12 rehab facilities run by New York State's Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Located in west Middletown, 70 miles northwest of New York City, the facility offers intensive residential treatment for adults struggling with chemical dependency.

The center is among just five percent of New York-based facilities run by the state government, and among the 24.2 percent of New York State facilities that treat gambling disorders. At this facility, gambling disorder can be treated either as a primary addiction or a co-occurring disorder.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The length of stay is determined according to the individual client's needs. There are certain requirements for admission, including residency in the facility's 10-county service area and the need for 24-hour, residential care, which may include an unsuitable living environment or co-occurring disorders that require medication management. The center is equipped to treat a variety of co-occurring conditions.

Residents participate in individual and group counseling, as well as training on how to prevent relapse and educational sessions on addiction and recovery. Families are invited to visit and attend treatment on weekends, and clients' significant others are evaluated, so that their needs can be incorporated into the treatment plan.

The clinical component of treatment is rounded out by holistic therapies such as acupuncture (which is available at 2.6 percent of New York State facilities), as well as pet therapy, art therapy, and drama therapy. Clients are also invited to meditate in the facility's therapeutic garden.

The Richard C. Ward center is among the 64.4 percent of New York-based facilities that offer dedicated programming for adult women. The women's program is led by women, and follows a multidisciplinary approach designed to address the barriers that often prevent women from getting treatment.

Before discharge, each client is assigned a staff member who helps them plan for life after treatment, by connecting them to further treatment and support services in the community.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, substance abuse counselors, and recreation therapists. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility four out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility offers 60 beds in total, at least some of which are in gender-separate environments. There is currently no additional information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, but the single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility five stars for its meals and nutrition and four stars for its cleanliness, accommodations, and exercise and leisure offerings.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

"Some very good counselors, many of whom were recovered addicts," wrote the single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date. The anonymous reviewer indicated that they would recommend the Richard C. Ward center, and gave the facility four stars for its family participation and treatment effectiveness, three stars for its ability to treat co-occurring disorders, but just two stars for its holistic offerings and counseling options.

The Richard C. Ward center also has mostly positive feedback on secondary sites, with a 4.9 out of five-star average rating based on 12 opinions on Facebook (which the facility may manage), and on Google, the facility received two perfect five-star ratings and a one-star rating.[1] [2]

The reviewers repeatedly credited the center for their continued sobriety, praised the staff, and stressed that the facility had given them the tools they needed to begin their journey to recovery. However, the facility’s website indicates that fees are based on each client’s ability to pay and no individual is denied care based on an inability to pay.
