Kennedy International Airport, Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for J-CAP, Inc. (J-CAP β short for βjust caring about peopleβ) offers <strong>long-term residential treatment for adults aged 17 or older.</strong> Clients must be referred to treatment by another treatment center, insurance provider, social services, or the New York State Division of Parole. The center offers a buprenorphine program for opioid withdrawal, making it among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY17.pdf" target="_blank">61.3 percent of facilities</a> to administer Suboxone.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to J-CAP's website, treatment is <strong>based on the therapeutic community (TC) model,</strong> which is a group-based approach to addiction. Loved ones are encouraged to join a <strong>family association</strong> program.</p> <p><strong>The next phase, main treatment, typically lasts six to eight months.</strong> Programming in this phase includes, <strong>individual counseling and group therapy sessions</strong> on topics such as anger management and women's issues. Clients set short- and long-term goals during this phase and <strong>participate in social and cultural activities,</strong> such as volunteering and singing in a choir. </p> <p>In the re-entry phase of treatment, which lasts three to four months, <strong>clients pursue work, study, or vocational training opportunities.</strong> Clients also build and consolidate their sober social networks, and actively work toward reaching long-term goals.</p> <p>There are <strong>dedicated services for disabled clients and veterans</strong>, with emphasis on trauma treatment for the latter. The facility is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY17.pdf" target="_blank">17.3 percent of New York facilities</a> to offer specialized programming for veterans. The center also offers an outpatient support program for teen mothers, as well as <strong>HIV/AIDS testing and case management</strong> for clients of both the facility and community. GED certification services are also available.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to J-CAP's website, staff have credentials in psychology, social work, addiction counseling, nursing, medicine, vocational rehabilitation, and mental health. The two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing both rated the staff's level of training and experience four out of five stars. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Clients share responsibility for the daily upkeep of the facility, such as housekeeping tasks and meal preparation. The two people polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing rated J-CAP three and four out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date provided positive feedback for the facility, rating J-CAP four out of five stars when asked if they would recommend the treatment center. They each rated the center four or five stars for its overall effectiveness, counseling options, and discharge policies. However, they rated its family participation only one and two stars and its holistic treatment offerings one and three stars.</p> <p>Alumni criticized the low staffing, lack of funding for house keeping needs, and limited food choices. However, one alum nonetheless wrote: "Worked my own program catered to my needs."</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from staff members. However, on secondary sites to date, employees gave neutral responses to J-CAP. On Glassdoor, a former counselor rated the facility three out of five stars. The two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date rated the center three and four out of five stars for its affordability.</p> <p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p> <p>A <a href="http://nypost.com/2014/08/10/drug-treatment-head-used-rehab-patients-for-slave-labor-staffers/" target="_blank">2014 New York Post article</a> reported that a J-CAP program manager had used clients against their will to complete house and yard work.
