<p><strong>ABOUT CN GUIDANCE & COUNSELING SERVICES, INC. - ADDICTION RECOVERY TREATMENT</strong></p> <p>Central Nassau (CN) provides an array of counseling and social services in the Hicksville, N.Y., area on Long Island. For more than 40 years, the nonprofit organization’s <strong>outpatient rehab program</strong> called Addiction Recovery Treatment Services (A.R.T.S.) has been serving adults, <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/is-my-child-just-experimenting/" target="_blank">adolescents</a> (a feature of only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY16.pdf" target="_blank">25.8 percent</a> of facilities in the state), and their loved ones who have been affected by a substance abuse disorder. <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">Education and treatment for friends and family members</a> is a priority at A.R.T.S.</strong> Additionally, A.R.T.S. is one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY16.pdf" target="_blank">531 (57.6 percent)</a> facilities in New York to offer support for individuals who have received a <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">dual diagnosis</a> of co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Following an intake assessment covering psychiatric and substance use conditions, a client begins and <strong>individualized treatment plan</strong> that will include general individual and group counseling, along with various specific sessions addressing such topics as <strong>anger management, psychological education, thinking errors, and relapse prevention</strong>. The <a href="http://www.rehabs.com/pro-talk-articles/seeking-safety-an-evidence-based-model-to-address-trauma-and-addiction-together/" target="_blank">Seeking Safety model</a> is utilized for treating trauma, and young adult and gender-specific groups are both available. Medication management is offered, and A.R.T.S. is also one of the only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY16.pdf" target="_blank">216 (23.4 percent)</a> New York facilities to feature DWI programming.</p> <p>While some outpatient support for the withdrawal process may be available, some clients are <strong>referred to a residential rehab</strong> program operated by CN on the Pilgrim State Hospital grounds.</p> <p>Outpatient sessions are scheduled throughout the week, with hours available on four evenings. A free family and significant other support group runs weekly. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Information provided on the facility’s website underscores the point that treatment is provided only by licensed counselors and therapists. The treatment team includes a medical doctor and multiple master’s level social workers. The three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date <strong>awarded the staff's level of training and experience two five-star, and one four-star rating</strong>.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>All three former clients polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing would recommend treatment through A.R.T.S. They gave <strong>unanimous ratings of four or five stars out of five for the program’s effectiveness</strong>, the facility's cleanliness, its treatment of co-occurring disorders, and whether or not they would recommend this center to others. All three reviewers reported that outpatient treatment helped them maintain their sobriety and also <strong>characterized the counselors as caring</strong>. Two identified the integration of mental health and substance use treatment as a particularly strong point of the program.</p> <p>One alum wrote that “very little was available in the way of holistic approaches such as mindfulness training,” and the lower ratings of just two and three stars for holistic offerings indicated that the other alumni agree. Counseling options also faired on the less favorable end, earning one four-star rating, but two-star ratings from the other two respondents. </p> <p>Reviews found on secondary sites to date were very negative. Having a low, average rating of just <strong>1.5 stars</strong> from three users on Yelp, the facility was criticized by all for being <strong>unprofessional</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> One reviewer cited <strong>concerns about the level of staff training</strong> and one reported that therapists were “hit-or-miss depending on who you get.” The most critical reviewer also mentioned problems with scheduling procedures. A representative CiteHealth user warned, "they have no idea what their doing the doctors don't help at all."</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from facility staff, secondary employee review sites reveal extreme satisfaction. On Glassdoor, where the facility has 4.1 stars from 32 employees, most current and former staffers recommend the facility as a place to work.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small> Similarly, on Indeed, 33 employees generated an average rating of 3.7 stars to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-4"><sup>[4]</sup></a></small> The most commonly referenced weakness was “high rates of burnout” from understaffing. On the other hand, an equal number were represented by one reviewer’s report that they “received amazing training.” Most indicated that the <strong>staff believed in the value of the work they were doing and in each other</strong>. Some staff reviews were of CN programs other than outpatient addiction treatment.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>CN services are funded by New York State, according to the facility’s website. <strong>Medicaid, Medicare</strong>, and private insurance plans are accepted, and a sliding fee scale is provided for uninsured clients. <strong>All three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave five out of five stars to the center's affordability</strong>.
