<p><strong>ABOUT CANANDAIGUA VA MEDICAL CENTER</strong></p> <p>Situated in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, 30 miles southwest of Rochester, the Behavioral Health Care Line at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center <strong>offers both short- and long-term inpatient treatment programs and outpatient services to veterans struggling with substance abuse.</strong> It is one of the state's only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NY17.pdf" target="_blank">146 (17.3 percent)</a> centers in the state with services specifically for veterans. The Behavioral Health Care Line also offers a Mentally Ill Chemically Addicted (MICA) rehabilitation program to address the specific needs of individuals with <strong><a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a></strong>, including depression, anxiety, bi-polar, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to the facility's website, Canandaigua VA Medical Center has been in operation since 1933, and <strong>provides a full continuum of care,</strong> from initial assessment to <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare planning.</a> </p> <p>Programming includes individual therapy, group counseling, alternative therapy, and educational sessions. Aftercare planning includes references to vocational training, community programs, and long-term treatment if necessary.</p> <p>The Behavioral Health Care Line offers inpatient and outpatient treatment services to veterans struggling with chronic issues related to substance abuse. The VISN2 Behavioral Health Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Program offers a <strong>highly structured, supportive environment</strong> for veterans who struggle with chronic substance use, homelessness and/or are in need of vocational assistance; the average length of stay is three to six months.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The center's website notes the treatment team includes a diverse staff of healthcare and wellness professionals such as physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers. The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date provided a four- and a five-star rating for the level of staff support. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. However, the two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave five- and four- out of five stars for accommodations and amenities.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two former clients polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback. They both gave <strong>five out of five stars when surveyed on whether the program was worth the cost.</strong></p> <p>Alum J.D.B. praised the center's ability to address co-occurring disorders. "I needed a program that addressed my addiction as it related to my bi-polar disorder; I've been clean since I did the program in 2000," she wrote.
