ABOUT CAZENOVIA RECOVERY SYSTEMS - UNITY HOUSE

Cazenovia is a private nonprofit that provides residential services at a variety of locations in New York State for individuals who are struggling with problematic substance use and/or mental health disorders, and are at risk of homelessness. In addition to treatment services, the agency provides housing with varying levels of support, from intensive residential units to transitional housing.

Located on a residential street between the Kingsley and Emerson neighborhoods of eastern Buffalo, Unity House is a community residence for men aged 18+ who are in recovery from substance use disorder and are homeless or at risk for homelessness, according to HUD guidelines. Under Cazenovia's definition, a "community residence program" offers highly structured care while allowing residents to hold a job. Treatment is slightly more intensive than a traditional transitional-living facility.

Other Cazenovia facilities include Casa di Vita, a women's community residence in Buffalo, and Turning Point House in Eden, south of Buffalo, which provides intensive residential treatment for men.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Like all of Cazenovia's programs, Unity House provides trauma-informed care. At this facility, that care is provided in the context of both individual and group therapy. Self-help meetings are held on-site, but Cazenovia does not at present indicate whether these follow the 12-step program or another recovery program. In addition to providing therapy, case management, on-site substance use counseling, and self-help meetings, Unity House aims to prepare its residents for life after treatment, via training in daily living skills, vocational services, and referrals to employment readiness programs. Residents are also encouraged to establish and maintain healthy relationships with their families and friends. Unity House can accommodate men struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders, however, treatment for these disorders consists of referrals to off-site providers.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Up to 24 men at a time sleep in semi-private rooms, in a comfortable if somewhat dated facility with a back deck, an exercise room, and a common area with a TV.

REVIEWS

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff; however, secondary sites did yield some feedback, and it was mostly positive: a single rating on Google, giving four stars for Unity House, and on Facebook, a 4.2-star average rating based on 29 reviews for Cazenovia Recovery Systems as a whole.[1] [2] "This is NOT a pain control clinic," J.G. wrote on Facebook in the only comment about Unity House. The Facebook commentary was mostly from Cazenovia employees, who repeatedly stressed that it was a great organization to work for. "This is a great company to work for. They help many people and keep there staff trained to be able to deal with a variety of people," C.S.D. wrote in a representative review.

FINANCING

Cazenovia accepts health insurance, private pay, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability, and Department of Social Services payments.

[1] https://goo.gl/QQcmvJ
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/CazenoviaRecovery/reviews/?ref=page_internal
