ABOUT INTEGRITY HOUSE - SECAUCUS

Founded in 1968, Integrity House is a nonprofit substance abuse and dual diagnosis treatment organization that helps two thousand men and women a year at more than half a dozen locations in New Jersey. The Secaucus campus, located in a quiet, leafy commercial area only five miles from Manhattan, N.Y., offers both short- and long-term residential care, placing it amongst the 46 (13.4 percent) New York treatment centers with these services, along with outpatient treatment and sober living facilities.

Integrity House is also amongst the 94 (27.3 percent) facilities in the state that offers methadone maintenance and medically supervised withdrawal services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Integrity House’s programs are client-centered and built on the therapeutic community model, empowering residents to take an active role in their own and their peers’ recovery, with a view to establishing long-term sobriety. Participation in 12-step meetings is also encouraged.

Both long- and short-term residential treatment programs offer intensive individual and group counseling. The short-term program is the more intensive option as it is also equipped to address eating disorders and trauma. In both programs, group therapy covers topics such as relapse prevention, anger management, and grief and loss support.

While at the sober living facility, men and women are expected to seek gainful employment and be actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Those interested may access additional services like GED prep and testing, resume writing, and interview practice.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Treatment staff include social workers and master’s level counselors. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave ratings of one, two, and four stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, an article published on NJ.com in August 2016 noted that the organization offered around 400 beds across its various facilities, and that most of these beds were reserved for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the four alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date, three indicated that they would recommend Integrity House, while the fourth remained neutral on this question. Reviewers unanimously praised the quality and quantity of the center’s family programming: the two alumni polled on family programming each gave five stars, and the two polled on visitor provisions each gave five stars as well; however, reviewers also indicated that treatment was somewhat bare-bones.

Reviewers painted a picture of a no-nonsense facility that was nevertheless effective in enabling clients to overcome their addictions. “If you think u are gonna go to this place and skate away from your addiction your going to the wrong place this place is hard and tough just like your addiction is,” one anonymous reviewer wrote, while John added, “They implemented all the tools I needed to succeed."

Feedback was less positive on Google, where 11 respondents produced an average rating of 2.5 out of five stars to date.[1] While a few former clients shared positive stories, the most common comment involved the intermixing of individuals who wanted to be in recovery and those who were court-ordered to the facility. Many reviewers felt this did not lead to effective programming or treatment.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed feedback, awarding three stars for treatment effectiveness and the strength of 12-step programming, but only one or two stars for holistic opportunities, family participation, and counseling options.

The sole parent to leave feedback on Google to date provided a one-star rating, expressing concern that there was no family participation and that gathering information on her child's recovery process was nearly impossible.[1]

WHAT STAFF SAY

As of this writing, secondary employment review sites yielded mixed feedback on Integrity House as an organization, with average ratings of 3.8 stars based on 37 reviews on Indeed.com,[2] and 3.1 stars based on 17 reviews on Glassdoor.[3] In their commentary, reviewers repeatedly praised the center’s mission and its capacity to help those being served; however, others cited low pay, understaffing, high levels of stress, and lack of support from management.

FINANCING

Integrity House accepts some private insurance, and offers treatment free of charge for qualified individuals. The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com on the center’s affordability both gave five-star ratings, but the sole loved one polled in this category to date provided just two out of five stars.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Integrity-House/reviews
[3] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Integrity-House-Reviews-E450716.htm
