ABOUT MRS. WILSON'S TREATMENT SERVICES FOR WOMEN

Named for Lois Wilson, the wife of Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson, Mrs. Wilson's Treatment Services for Women is a private, nonprofit organization founded by three women in 1976. Located 35 miles west of New York City, it's one of the 53.1 percent of N.J. facilities that operate on a private, nonprofit basis. Today, the organization offers residential, transitional, and outpatient services for women. Medical detox is not available on-site, though the facility does accept drug court referrals.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All treatment is based on the 12-Steps, supplemented by individual, group, couples', and family counseling. The center also uses some evidence-based and holistic techniques, such as the Matrix Model, Seeking Safety, mindfulness, Qigong, Tai Chi, and pet therapy.

The main residential center is called Mrs. Wilson's Halfway House, though it appears to offer more treatment services than a typical halfway house. After a three-week introductory period, all residents are required to gain and maintain full-time employment, complete chores, and cook โ€” all part of the organization's commitment to instill living skills in its residents. The average length of stay at the halfway house is six to eight months, placing Mrs. Wilson's among the 46 facilities in New Jersey that offer treatment lasting more than 30 days.

The Tomlinson Transitional Living House accommodates six women who are participating in aftercare groups and individual therapy at Mrs. Wilson's Treatment Services for Women. Tomlinson House offers a variable length of stay.

Outpatient offerings consist of an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and general outpatient care. Programming consists of nine to 15 hours per week of treatment and education in small groups. The outpatient program can accommodate women struggling with co-occurring disorders.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The all-female staff consists of licensed clinical social workers and licensed and certified addiction counselors. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility three out of five stars for its level of staff support.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Mrs. Wilson's Halfway House is a Victorian family home with 18 beds, while the Tomlinson Transitional Living House accommodates up to six women at a time, in a home that's walking distance from the town center. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center one out of five stars for its accommodations, meals, and cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com hasn't yet polled any alumni of Mrs. Wilson's house, but the parent company Alfre has a single five-star rating, with no accompanying commentary, on Google.[1]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date would not recommend this facility. "If you look closely it is run down," K.S. wrote, giving the center five stars for its counseling but one star for its family involvement and holistic offerings, and indicating that treatment did not benefit their loved one.

FINANCING

Residents contribute to the cost of their treatment from wages earned through the full-time employment they must secure during treatment, though the precise rate of contribution required is not currently available. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center four out of five stars for its cost.

[1] GoogleReviews
