ABOUT THE SALVATION ARMY OMAHA'S ADULT REHABILITATION CENTER

A part of the Salvation Army's nationwide network of Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARCs), the Adult Rehabilitation Center of Omaha, Nebraska, offers long-term residential treatment to men struggling with substance use disorder. It's one of 42 substance abuse treatment facilities in Nebraska (34 percent of all treatment facilities in the state) to provide specialized programming for men. Medical detoxification is not offered.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Before admission, clients may undergo an initial assessment to ensure the facility offers an adequate level of care, as treatment is not suitable for individuals struggling with chronic co-occurring mental health disorders. In order to participate in the program, clients must commit to at least six months of residential treatment. Residential programs that are not hospital-based and last longer than 30 days are available in just 22 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Nebraska.

The program adheres to a therapeutic community model of treatment, which emphasizes peer support, social interaction, and structured scheduling. Residents participate individual and group counseling sessions, education classes, therapeutic recreation, and spiritual guidance workshops.

Treatment is also largely founded in the 12-step model of recovery. Clients are introduced to the fellowship's philosophy and practices, attend 12-step meetings, study 12-step literature, and perform associated "step-work." Clients may also attend church services, participate in Bible studies, attend spiritual counseling sessions, and give devotionals.

The ARC of Richmond also incorporates work therapy into programming, typically after 30 days of treatment. While continuing to participate in required treatment activities, residents are assigned a full-time work schedule to support the Salvation Army organization. In most cases, residents assist with the daily operations of the organization’s thrift stores, which help fund treatment services. In 2017, 26 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Nebraska provided employment counseling or training for its clients.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Although there is no information available regarding staff credentials, the one individual surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Typically, the Salvation Army's ARCs house residents in simple dorm-like facilities. The one person polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave this facility a rating of four out of five stars for its cleanliness and general upkeep.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, Omaha's ARC earned an average rating of 4.2 out of fie stars based on six Google reviews[1]. The two alumni to leave comments praised the program, including Chris who wrote: "Without the salvation army arc program i would not be alive and sober today. All the staff and counless others work very hard for that program."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, an anonymous young adult female, gave the Omaha ARC mostly positive feedback. She awarded the program four or five out of five stars for its family participation, its counseling options, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its exercise and leisure offerings. "They were organized and clean and welcomed all people," she wrote. Her one complaint was that the program needed better trained staff.

FINANCING

ARC of Omaha provides treatment free of cost. The residential program is supported by the revenue gained through Salvation Army's thrift stores and private donations.

[1] GoogleReviews
