<p><strong>ABOUT OMAHA VA MEDICAL CENTER</strong></p> <p>The Omaha VA Medical Center has a number of specialized treatment programs and supportive housing for <strong>veterans who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless</strong>, including those seeking treatment for substance use disorders. </p> <p>The VA is one of Nebraska’s <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NE17.pdf" target="_blank">seven</a> facilities run by the federal government, which make up about six percent of all treatment centers in Nebraska. Detox is not available.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>In partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the center provides <strong>homeless and low-income veterans with support services and case management services</strong>, which are offered in <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NE17.pdf" target="_blank">76.8 percent of Nebraska treatment facilities</a>.</p> <p>These services include medical, mental health, and substance use disorder treatment coupled with <strong>options for safe, stable housing</strong>. One of the two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing indicated that they participate in both <strong>group and individual counseling</strong>, as well as <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/how-a-non-religious-journalist-makes-a-case-for-aa-in-2017/" target="_blank">12-step</a> meetings and workshops.</p> <p>The center also operates walk-in clinics called Homeless Patient Aligned Care Teams (H-PACTs) which offer <strong>outpatient health care services</strong> without an appointment, including mental health and substance abuse treatment. The VA is one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NE17.pdf" target="_blank">65 (52 percent) facilities in the state that offer</a> mental health screenings and treatments alongside substance abuse treatments. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>H-PACT clinics employ medical staff, nurses, <strong>mental health and substance abuse counselors</strong>, and social workers. Many of the staff members have specialized training and extensive experience working with clients that have trauma-related and homelessness-related conditions. Of the three former clients polled by Rehabs.com to date, one gave the center three out of five stars and two gave five out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the Omaha VA Medical Center positive feedback. Alumni described treatment as helpful and thorough. The alumni gave four out of five stars or higher for its level of staff support, the respect shown to clients, and effectiveness of lead counselors. "Good access to counseling. Clean facilities. Structured classes," one alum wrote in a representative review. </p> <p>On Google, Omaha VA Medical Center as a whole (which includes primary medical services) received an <strong>average rating of 4.3 out of five stars</strong> based on 149 reviews.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Despite occasional complaints about long wait times, alumni agreed about the “Phenomenal care, customer service and respect” offered by staff members.</p> <p>On Yelp, the facility has an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars based on 14 reviews, plus three five-star reviews that are not currently recommended.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small> The reviews are mixed. Eight individuals provided positive feedback about the staff members, while four wrote negative things about the customer service team or other staff members. While four reviewers found the wait times too long, four individuals described prompt service. </p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>The VA accepts veterans insurance as a primary method of payment.
