Editorial Review

ABOUT WESTERN MONTANA ADDICTION SERVICES

Western Montana Addiction Services operates several facilities under the auspices of Western Montana Mental Health Center, which offers comprehensive treatment services to members in its 15 service communities. The facility in Poison, Mont., provides outpatient-based programs for adults struggling with substance use disorders and an Assessment, Course, and Treatment (ACT) program for individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or other drugs.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, the facility’s ACT Program is a three-phase process. The first step is assessment, which is done one-on-one with a certified chemical dependency counselor. Next, clients participate in the "course," or four-class session for a total of 12 hours. The last phase is treatment. Patients are assessed again and referred to a treatment program, which may entail a referral to inpatient care, intensive outpatient (IOP) program, standard outpatient (OP) care, and/or continuing care.

The center’s website indicated that Misdemeanor Dangerous Drug (MDD) intervention services are offered to individuals who received an MDD citation. Participants in ACT and MDD may be subjected to DUI monitoring as part of the program. In addition, the facility conducts Minor in Possession (MIP) sessions for individuals 18 years of age and younger who have been charged with illegal possession of alcohol. In Montana, the facility is among the 19.8 percent of facilities to offer specialized programming for adolescents.

As part of its ongoing operations, the Polson facility also provides case management and prevention services through after-school programs, mentoring, parenting classes, leadership development, and community education.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

ACT/MDD programs are licensed by the state, where Western Montana Addiction Services is among 33 substance abuse treatment centers that have specially tailored programs for DUI/DWI clients. According to its website, the center’s staff includes certified chemical dependency counselors.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing submitted mixed feedback about Western Montana Addiction Services. This anonymous former client awarded a perfect five-star rating for treatment of co-occurring disorders; four out of five stars for affordability and staff experience and training; and three stars for likelihood to recommend.

However, the reviewer gave two stars for counseling options, as well as one star for family participation and holistic offerings. In all, the alum suggested to Rehabs.com that the facility could improve upon its teaching style, noting that a lot of the teaching received felt redundant, and added they "had the support of all involved and the 'teachers.'"

On its Facebook page, which it may manage, Western Montana Mental Health Center received moderately favorable feedback: 3.6 out of five stars based on eight reviews. [1] Note that the ratings and comments pertained to parent organization, as a whole, rather than to Western Montana Addiction Services specifically. Reviewers who posted positive comments praised the doctors, therapists, and dedicated staff whereas others criticized unprofessional staff behavior, lack of ethics, and inefficiency.

FINANCING

Western Montana Mental Health Center accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Healthy Montana Kids (CHIPS), and most other insurances. Payment based on a sliding fee scale may be available to qualified individuals. In Montana, the center is among the 33.1 percent of facilities to accept Medicare.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/westernmentalhealth/reviews/?ref=page_internal
