ABOUT BRIDGEWAY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH - THE FARM

Bridgeway Behavioral Health - The Farm, located in Winfield, Mo., is one of the 45 facilities in Missouri to offer specialized treatment to adolescents seeking treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Through its long-term residential program, the goal of the farm is to provide treatment in a unique setting that allows clients to disconnect from risk factors that may be negatively affecting their lives. The facility aims to teach clients skills that will allow them to live happier, healthier, and more productive lives. Detox is not available on side.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility’s treatment program follows evidence-based practices and a therapeutic community approach. Methods used by the facility include 12-Step facilitation, motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential therapies, rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT), and equine-assisted psychotherapy. These treatment methods are preferred by many treatment organizations across the country, and the 12-Steps method is used in 48% of U.S. treatment facilities.

Each client follows an individualized treatment plan to meet their unique needs. The length of treatment varies for each person, but the minimum recommended stay is at least 60 days.Throughout treatment, families are included in the treatment program and are considered to be a vital addition to successful treatment. The Farm offers weekly family education sessions, on-site family therapy, and in-home family therapy.

The therapeutic community approach intends to make the atmosphere of the facility “non-institutional,” offering instead a compassion, cooperation, nurturing, and warm environment. The staff also emphasize leadership skills. During their stay, clients receive education through an online accredited school. They continue earning credit toward graduation while still actively participating in the treatment program.

This facility also offers unique treatments and therapies, including farm work-therapy, where clients support the day-to-day operations of a farm. The work is designed to teach vocational skills and job preparedness, which is only offered in 38.6% of treatment facilities. Wilderness therapy, equine-assisted psychotherapy, art therapy, and music therapy are also offered.

Aftercare is available for all clients who successfully complete the program and is considered crucial for continued success following treatment. The client’s counselor and community support specialist will develop the aftercare plan in collaboration with the client, family, and available community resources for ongoing support after residential care is completed.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Farm's treatment team includes substance abuse counselors, community support specialists, teachers, peer specialists, psychiatrists, nurses, equine therapist, and support techs.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Farm is located on a rural working farm. Clients live in shared rooms and share communal rooms. The facility also has small group rooms and counseling offices. Clients are expected to help maintain the facility during their stay, which includes farm duties and housework. Clients are also expected to continue their school work through the facility’s school program.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehab.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date. However, secondary sources revealed overall positive opinions among Bridgeway alumni. On the facility’s Facebook page, which it can manage, there is an overall rating of 4.8 out of five stars based on 54 reviews.[1] The reviews, however, are regarding the overall Bridgeway Behavioral Health organization, not only for The Farm location.

One Bridgeway alum, J.M., who gave five stars wrote: “ They gave me the tools to stay clean and helped me get through things in my past that I by myself I would have never got through thank you bridgeway.” T.J.K, another alum, agreed with that viewpoint. He also gave five stars and wrote, “This place saved my life! Not only that but I left there with the tools needed to make better choices and I now have a happier, healthier and more productive life!"

WHAT STAFF SAY

At the time of this writing, there has been one staff member, C.W., polled by Rehabs.com. This reviewer, who is a current employee at the facility, gave five out of five stars across several different metrics, including a willingness to put patients’ interests first; for credentials/experience of medical, addiction, and mental health staff; and for the quality of patient treatment and care provided by the facility.

Citing a "Commitment to our clients where they are," the employee also gave five stars for the facility's enforcement of patient privacy and confidentiality and for the ability of staff to inspire loyalty/sense of community among patients. The employee indicated that a weakness was about the facility was that it was “new.”

FINANCING

The Farm accepts private insurance and is one of the 185 facilities in the state that accept Medicaid. State-funded insurance is also accepted. Bridgeway Behavioral Health also has various funding methods to support its operations and help clients receive financial aid. The facility has its own online store that contributes 20% of all purchase revenue. Donations and other charitable funding methods are used to collect funds for the program.

CONCLUSION

Bridgeway uses its influence to focus on prevention alongside recovery services. It continues to promote prevention information like news articles about changes in recovery programs, and community announcements about common health concerns. Among these concerns are changes in addiction patterns, as well as the growing influence of heroin and opioids.

[1]https://www.facebook.com/BridgewayBehavioralHealth/
