ABOUT TURNING LEAF GENERAL CSTAR

Turning Leaf General CSTAR is operated by FCC Behavioral Health, a private, nonprofit behavioral health center founded in 1976, which runs 22 clinics and treatment facilities in rural Southern Missouri. Turning Leaf General CSTAR, located off Highway 63 on the outskirts of the small town of West Plains, offers social (but not medical) detox services, residential treatment, and outpatient services for individuals aged over 17 years and nine months who are struggling with substance abuse and dual diagnosis.

The center accepts individuals referred from a variety of sources, including the court system and self-referrals.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The center’s detox services are offered on a social basis only, meaning that medications are not provided; the center’s staff simply monitor detoxing clients as they withdraw.

Residential treatment includes a minimum of 60 hours per week of structured therapeutic programming, with services offered seven days per week. The program uses individual and group counseling, along with psychoeducation, unspecified recreational and healthy living activities, health monitoring, counseling for co-occurring disorders, and medication-assisted treatment, when necessary.

Outpatient programs consist of a day program (or partial hospitalization program/PHP), which runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and general outpatient treatment, offered in the same time slot, at a frequency tailored to suit the individual client’s needs.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The staff includes licensed social workers, licensed counselors, certified substance abuse professionals, and nursing staff. Primary healthcare needs are met by local healthcare providers, and mental health and psychiatric services are offered via telecommunications. The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it a three-star rating and a five-star rating.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Pictures published on the facility’s website show an understated, somewhat clinical building. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center two five-star ratings and a four-star rating for both its accommodations and its meals. The two individuals polled on the center’s cleanliness gave it a three-star rating and a five-star rating.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

All three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave this facility five out of five stars for its overall effectiveness, though only two would recommend the center, with the other remaining neutral on this question. Both alumni polled on the center’s treatment for co-occurring disorders gave it perfect five-star ratings; the same reviewers gave the center a three-star rating and a five-star rating for both its family program and its counseling options. The three reviewers disagreed about the quality of the facility’s holistic offerings, giving them a two-star, a three-star, and a five-star rating.

There was little overlap among the reviewers’ comments. While two anonymous reviewers praised the center’s communications and “excellent” counselors, Lisa wrote: “The teaching was exceptional, I have been to 8 treatment centers and Turning Leaf was on a much higher plane of instruction.” Lisa also praised the policy of keeping male and female clients separate.

Reviews left on secondary sites were also positive: at the time of this writing, the center had a perfect five-star rating based on six reviews left on Google.[1] The reviewers often spoke in superlatives, describing the center, its staff, and its program in glowing terms. “The beat treatment center in the world. I highly recommend. The only center that got through to me and helped me. The others failed miserably. 10 stars out of 5 being the max,” A.S. wrote in a representative review.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility's staff.

However, seven employee reviews on indeed averaged to a two- out of five-star employment satisfaction rating.[2] Many individuals expressed dissatisfaction with the management, and one representative reveiwer wrote, "horrible work environment." Contrastingly, one three-star reveiwer did comment, "I only love for this company because I'm able to care for and interact with the consumers."

FINANCING

The center accepts Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay. A sliding fee scale is offered based on the individual's ability to pay. To date, the two alumni polled by Rehabs.com gave a four-star and a five-star rating respectively to the center's affordability.

[1] https://goo.gl/p6Ruln
[2] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Turning-Leaf-Residential-Rehabilitation-Services/reviews
