ABOUT FCC BEHAVIORAL HEALTH – COOPER COMMONS

Cooper Commons, one of 27 state-licensed facilities across rural southern Missouri run by FCC Behavioral Health, provides intensive residential treatment services (IRTS) for adults struggling with chronic mental health disorders and who require increased structure, oversight, and support to live healthily and meaningfully within a community setting.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Cooper Commons IRTS Program can accommodate stays of 90 days to many years, as well as shorter-term, month-long stays, the primary goal of treatment being psychiatric recovery and the progression towards a less intense level of treatment. Clients are typically referred from family, courts, and hospitals, amongst other sources.

Treatment programming takes place seven days a week here, offering men a minimum of four hours of structured therapy each day. After an initial assessment with a clinician, clients partake in some (“three or more,” per the facility’s webpage) of the following: life skills and social network development, vocational training, recreational groups, educational activities, crisis intervention, and, when necessary, medication management. Individual and group counseling are also utilized, including specialized care for those struggling with co-occurring disorders. Family members can take on an active role in their loved one’s recovery process with the prior consent of the client.

Upon request, those having trouble adjusting may access additional support services, including escorts and periodic room checks, within the first 30 days. To help further a client’s progress towards living successfully within the community, linkage to various community resources are also available.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Operating on a 24-hour basis, Cooper Commons employs a team of mental health professionals, a registered nurse, certified peer support specialists, a care coordinator, and board-certified psychiatrists, who administer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and provide psychiatric evaluations.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

This facility has a stated capacity of 10 clients, six of whom are housed in private rooms. Pictures published on the facility’s webpage depict a standard kitchen with an oven, refrigerator, and washer/dryer machine, as well as a lounge area with couches and TV.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from alumni and loved ones at the time of this writing. Though proud of a few quality counselors here, staffer D.N., the only Rehabs.com survey respondent to date, shared mostly disappointment with Cooper Commons. “This center cares in my opinion only about billing,” D.N. contested. “I challenge again anyone to go into that center and talk to the staff, both past and present.”

Yet a former classroom instructor gave this specific facility four out of five stars on Indeed, writing: “I taught to the clients. they are all addicted to a substance. i did 3-5 groups a day. all groups taking about an hour at a time.”[1] For the network as a whole, 30 ratings averaged 3.8 out of five stars to date.

FINANCING

The IRTS Program accepts private health insurance plans and Medicaid, with additional options for self-pay and income-based sliding-scale fees.

[1] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Family-Counseling-Center/reviews?fcountry=US&floc=Hayti%2C+MO
