<p><strong>ABOUT TEEN CHALLENGE INTERNATIONAL OF MID-AMERICA</strong></p> <p>In operation for more than 50 years, Teen Challenge is a well-known, <strong>Christian-based treatment organization</strong> designed to treat individuals struggling with chemical dependency, as well as other "life-controlling issues." Located in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Teen Challenge International of Mid-America is one of over 200 Teen Challenge locations and offers one of the state's <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MO17.pdf" target="_blank">28 (10.9 percent)</a> <strong>long-term, residential programs.</strong> </p> <p>Treatment is specifically <strong>for men ages 16 and older,</strong> making this one of Missouri's <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MO17.pdf" target="_blank">88 (34.2 percent)</a> male-specific programs, and one of the just <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MO17.pdf" target="_blank">51 (19.8 percent)</a> that is tailored toward <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/is-my-child-just-experimenting/" target="_blank">adolescents.</a> The facility does not provide on-site detoxification services.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Upon admission, clients (referred to as students) may complete an initial assessment to determine individual needs. The facility's programming is designed to rehabilitate three life areas of its students: <strong>spiritual, academic and vocational</strong>. Students learn valuable <strong>on-the-job vocational training</strong> through the businesses and services operated by Teen Challenge. Under the direction of Teen Challenge’s board of directors, Teen Challenge International Mid-America employs an executive team experienced with the Teen Challenge community. Some employees may be <strong>graduates of their Emerging Leaders Program</strong> or volunteers.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>According to the facility's website, Teen Challenge International Mid-America <strong>can accommodate up to 130 to 140 students</strong>. This is an enormous level of availability, given that the average number of clients in a residential facility at a time was <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">18 individuals, as of 2016.</a> During their stay, students may not leave the facility except for approved home visits. "A drug rehabilitation program that exhibits the true transformative properties of a Christ centered life," J.B. echoed.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing praised most aspects of the facility. Out of five stars, the loved one gave four-star ratings for the facility's counseling options, the amount of family participation, discharge planning, center affordability, and the treatment staff's level of experience and training."The staff and management were awesome," the loved one wrote. </p> <p>The only aspect of the facility to receive a low rating was holistic offerings, earning two out of five stars, with the comment, "workout equipment shortage."</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Teen Challenge International of Mid-America is supported by individuals, foundations, churches and businesses, as well as the revenue gained by the program’s business enterprises.
