<p><strong>ABOUT EAST MISSISSIPPI STATE HOSPITAL</strong></p> <p>Founded in 1882, East Mississippi State Hospital provides integrated behavioral health services to residents of 31 counties in the region. For <strong>adult and adolescent males struggling with substance abuse</strong>, the center offers <strong>medical detox and residential treatment</strong>. <br /> .<br /> <strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>At East Mississippi State Hospital, chemical dependency treatment for adult males is a <strong>28-day detoxification, stabilization, and psychoeducational program.</strong> It aims to support clients’ dignity and self-worth, while providing treatment that promotes personal responsibility, self-control, and coping skills. The program also includes preparation of a <strong>suitable <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare</a> plan</strong>. </p> <p>Adolescent males ages 12 to 17 have access to substance abuse treatment at the <strong>Bradley A. Sanders Adolescent Complex</strong>. Daily scheduling consists of individual and group therapy, recreational activities, schooling, behavioral management, family education, and pastoral services, upon request.</p> <p>Only males can receive chemical dependency treatment at East Mississippi State Hospital. Adult and adolescent women are referred to <a href="http://www.rehabs.com/listings/mississippi-state-hospital-1417404195/" target="_blank">Mississippi State Hospital</a>, 85 miles away on the outskirts of Jackson.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>East Mississippi State Hospital is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). There currently is no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff. However, according to survey data available to date from Rehabs.com, four individuals who evaluated the staff’s level of training and experience awarded it an average of 3.5 out of five stars. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>East Mississippi State Hospital is a smoke-free facility. The center as a whole has <strong>175 beds,</strong> of which 25 are available for adult men and 25 for adolescent boys to receive treatment for chemical dependency. </p> <p>The Bradley A. Sanders Adolescent Complex is located near the main campus and has a total of 50 beds. Established in 2002, this facility sits on a <strong>65-acre, wooded site</strong> with a lake and indoor basketball court.</p> <p>Approved loved ones must attend an hour-long educational course before visiting. Afterward, they may visit on a scheduled day and time after the client has completed two weeks of programming.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>All three of the alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date <strong>would recommend this facility</strong>. Each awarded four and five out of five stars for the chemical dependency program's treatment effectiveness and for exercise and leisure options. The two alumni who rated the facility’s individual and group counseling gave these metrics the top five stars. </p> <p>Alum J.L. wanted Rehabs.com to know: “The personal and group counseling helped an addict learn to become the man I am today.” An anonymous reviewer praised the “excellent Staff, facility, accommodations, meal service,” but was less pleased with the “very restrictive visiting policy.” And another told Rehabs.com, the center is a “very clean place.”</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>Feedback submitted to Rehabs.com to date from loved ones was <strong>mostly negative</strong>. Of the three individuals who participated in the survey, two rated the facility's treatment effectiveness one out of five stars and the other rated it two stars (1.5 stars on average). For its family program, they gave a one-star, three-star, and four-star rating (2.7 stars on average) and the center’s holistic offerings garnered two one-star and a four-star rating (two stars on average). “Food AND activities were a strength,” one anonymous reviewer wrote. Another registered the "need to improve counseling," while the other requested: “More family participation.”</p> <p>On its Facebook page, which East Mississippi State Hospital can manage, reviewers -- several of whom were loved ones -- rated the center an average of 3.8 out of five stars. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> In one of the few comments submitted, Nichole wrote: “My husband is their in the chemical dependancy unit now,he said its really helping him getting straight which is a very awesome thing.” However, Bridgett noted that their grandmother had left the facility several years earlier, never to be seen again.</p> <p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p> <p>East Mississippi State Hospital <strong>accepts insurance, private pay, Medicaid, and Medicare</strong>. Four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center’s affordability gave it four out of five stars, on average.</p> <p>According to <a href="http://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2016/05/10/state-budget-cuts-close-psychiatric-beds/84181292/" target="_blank">a report published in the Clarion-Ledger in May 2016</a>, East Mississippi State Hospital was to close its chemical dependency program due to budget cuts, and accept only involuntary admissions to the program. In April 2017, <a href="http://www.meridianstar.com/news/local_news/amid-state-budget-cuts-east-mississippi-state-hospital-cuts-jobs/article_01969b00-2acd-11e7-8705-53720816db74.html" target="_blank">The Meridian Star reported</a> that budget cuts were going to force consolidation of the Bradley Sanders Adolescent Complex with Mississippi State Hospital.
