<p><strong>ABOUT SHEPHEARST MEADOWS LLC</strong></p> <p>Located in the greater Jackson area in the city of Flowood, Miss., Shephearst Meadows is the only <strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP) facility that specializes in treating women exclusively</strong> in the state. Its comprehensive slate of offerings includes services for those struggling with <strong>substance abuse, mental health disorders, and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</strong></a>. </p> <p>Within the state, the center is also <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MS17.pdf" target="_blank">among 32.6 percent</a> of substance abuse treatment facilities that provide intensive outpatient services. It also is <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MS17.pdf" target="_blank">among 47.2 percent</a> with specially tailored programs for adult women and <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MS17.pdf" target="_blank">50.6 percent</a> with special programs for clients with co-occurring disorders. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Treatment at Shephearst Meadows begins with an initial evaluation and development of a recovery plan. According to the center’s website, <strong>A Refuge is the IOP for women</strong> with addiction-related conditions, including substance abuse and <strong>eating disorders</strong>, as well as <strong>co-occurring mental health disorders</strong>. </p> <p>Clients meet <strong>three times per week for three hours at a time</strong>. Those struggling with an eating disorder also schedule meal eating appointments and keep a food diary. Participants must sign a treatment contract and individual treatment plan, which are reviewed regularly and may include medication services.</p> <p><strong>A Women’s Way is another IOP</strong>. It is designed for women who are contending with a <strong>mental health disorder</strong>. Participants meet three times a week for three hours along with weekly meetings with a therapist and psychiatrist. </p> <p>The <strong>Transitions program</strong> is for <strong>high functioning women with depression and anxiety</strong>, who are finding daily responsibilities difficult. Treatment includes an early intervention, three hours of group therapy, and one hour of individual therapy a week.</p> <p><strong>A Women’s Circle</strong> is for <strong>women in recovery from addiction or an eating disorder</strong> who are experiencing irritability, sleeping issues, and negative thoughts. The program utilizes group therapy and is designed to provide structure, accountability, and freedom, as well as stave off a relapse.</p> <p>The <strong>Family Program</strong> is designed for <strong>women and families</strong> who want to live together free from an addiction or an eating disorder. Clients work with staff to develop a <strong>family education and recovery plan</strong>, which includes education about addiction, as well as recovery and relapse prevention.</p> <p>The center’s <strong>Trauma-Informed (TI) Yoga</strong>, for survivors of abuse and trauma, helps them find a safe way to reduce intense emotions. Treatment at Shephearst Meadows also may include <strong>art therapy, body image reframing, couples behavioral therapy</strong>, group therapy, individual therapy, and meditation.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Shephearst Meadows is credentialed by the state of Mississippi and further certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health to provide adult mental health IOP services, outpatient substance abuse and rehabilitative services, and DUI diagnostic assessment for second and subsequent offenders. The center’s website indicates the treatment staff includes board certified psychiatrists, therapists, a neuro-psychologist, a licensed dietitian, and licensed professional counselors. </p> <p><strong>AMENITIES & ACCOMMODATIONS</strong></p> <p>Shephearst Meadows offers women’s counseling in a small city setting. The center conducts <strong>two separate and distinct IOP cycles</strong>. One is held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the other is offered in evening on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, the one alum polled by Rehabs.com submitted favorable feedback about Shephearst Meadows. To a series of detailed survey metrics, J.P. awarded all positive ratings, including: perfect five stars for counseling options, discharge policies, likelihood to recommend, staff experience and training, and treatment of co-occurring disorders; and three out of five stars for affordability, connectivity/visitor policy, facility cleanliness and upkeep, family participation, and holistic offerings. </p> <p>The reviewer, who characterized treatment as a “Super program,” cited staff and leadership as strengths. “Facility explored and explained addiction, dopamine, seratonum, and other scientific facts. But focus was much deeper than that exploring heratige, family trees, parental upbringing, and many more subjects relative to our senses and how things are perceived by us,” J.P. wrote. “Therapeutic based on spiritual and emotional reasoning for who we are, why we are who we are, and reasons leading into our addictions.”</p> <p>On secondary sites, the center received <strong>positive coverage</strong> to date: two five-star reviews and a one-star rating on Google; and four stars based on three reviews on Facebook, which the facility may manage.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> Although most reviewers offered favorable views of the center, the ratings clustered around the top five stars and the lowest one star. </p> <p>One five-star reviewer who left comments praised the therapists as “knowledgeable and very helpful” and wrote: “If you are looking for an all women’s therapeutic setting and a holistic, healing environment, especially in regards to trauma therapy, this is the best place to go in the Jackson area.” The negative reviewer who submitted comments on behalf of his wife, described the counselor as “great,” but added: “Front office could not be more disrespectful and inconsiderate.
