ABOUT RANGE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

With its headquarters located in the community of Virginia in northeastern Minn., Range Mental Health Center (RMHC) is a private, not-for-profit healthcare organization that provides a range of treatment programs for adults and youth struggling with chemical dependency, mental health disorders, and co-occurring issues.

Through its six facilities, RMHC offers inpatient programs for adults, as well as outpatient-based programs and services for adults and adolescents. On-site medical detoxification is available through RMHC’s Donovan Frank Building, which offers an adult inpatient program for chemical dependency.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To ensure clients are admitted into the appropriate program, each facility performs an initial behavioral and psychiatric assessment. These assessments also guide clinicians to form an individualized plan of care.

Utilizing trauma-informed therapy and other evidence-based treatment methods, RMHC’s substance abuse treatment addresses the underlying issues contributing to addictive behavior through individual and group counseling sessions. Staff are trained in eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

If necessary, RMHC also integrates specialized treatments for individuals struggling with co-occurring issues. These treatments could include issue-specific psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations, and medication management. The Merritt House in Virginia, Minn. offers a 90-day intensive residential program for individuals experiencing significant mental health issues.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

RMHC employs a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, licensed psychologists, marriage and family therapists, mental health and substance abuse counselors, and licensed social workers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The center’s website includes little detail regarding living arrangements and related amenities. It does note, however, the 16-bed Merritt House provides 24-hour staff supervision. Two individuals reviewed by Rehabs.com gave three and five out of five stars for the facility’s accommodations, as well as four- and five-star ratings for its cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing praised many aspects of their treatment. L.N., who received treatment for chemical dependency, submitted perfect five- out of five-star ratings for the facility’s level of staff support and the overall effectiveness of individual and group counseling sessions.

The alum also felt the program gave them the proper tools needed to support recovery. “I was able to return to sobriety,” L.N. wrote. They did, however, rate the program’s holistic offerings only one star.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing agreed that treatment was overall beneficial, offering ratings of four out of five stars for the facility’s overall treatment effectiveness and family participation, yet felt some aspects could improve. “Family program was good. The counselors were not,” S.A. wrote.

When asked to rate, on a scale of one to five, whether they would recommend the facility to others, the loved one answered only two, and also gave two stars for the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders and three stars for staff level of experience and training.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Although Rehabs.com has received no reviews from staff members, four former employees of the Virginia and Hibbing facilities gave an average rating of 4.3 out of five stars on Indeed.[1] The four staffers enjoyed working with clients and colleagues. “There are truly a lot of staff at that agency that genuinely care about the mentally ill and want to provide good services to assist in improving the lives of the people that they work with,” a former staff member wrote.

Two reviewers, however, mentioned long hours and hefty caseloads. “Difficulty of the job was case load which at times didn't allow for sufficient time to effectively work each client,” one former employee wrote.

FINANCING

The cost of services varies depending on the program. According to the organization’s website, RMHC accepts most private insurance plans and Medicaid.

[1] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Range-Mental-Health-Center/reviews
