ABOUT COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH AUTHORITY OF CLINTON, EATON, AND INGHAM COUNTIES

Based in Lansing, Mich., the Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties (CMHA-CEI) offers a continuum of treatment services for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The organization’s services include medical detoxification, residential treatment for men, outpatient treatment (OP), and specialized treatment tracks for incarcerated clients.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients participate in an initial assessment to determine clinical needs and an appropriate level of care. To treat clients experiencing symptoms of withdrawal, CMHA-CEI offers a sub-acute detox program. This medically managed treatment is offered in a safe, supervised environment and typically lasts three to five days.

Once detoxification is complete, male clients typically transition to House of Commons, CMHA-CEI’s residential treatment facility, while women may be referred to other residential programs. Most residents remain at House of Commons for up to 90 days. For men on probation, the treatment continuum also requires participation in a follow-up day program for six months upon residential program completion. According to the facility’s website, treatment services consist mainly of individual and group therapy, educational classes,12-step facilitation, and social activities.

CMHA-CEI’s Clinton County Counseling Center, which is located about 35 miles from House of Commons, exclusively serves residents of Clinton County. The center’s outpatient services include individual therapy, group counseling, psychoeducation, family intervention, case management, and assessments.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

CMHA-CEI’s treatment team includes a program coordinator, master’s-level mental health therapists, client services specialists, registered nurses, dietary technicians, and other behavioral health staff. The detox center has physician oversight and works with acupuncturists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

CMHA- CEI’s detox program can accommodate up to 10 individuals, and House of Commons houses up to 40 men at a time. Based on photos posted to the center’s website, residential facilities are simple and fairly institutional. Despite awarding the center’s exercise and leisure options, its holistic offerings, its connectivity, its family programming, and the staff’s level of training and experience three- or four-star ratings, the alum wrote: “Takes forever to speak with someone. They don't seem to care,” they wrote.

Reviews submitted to third-party sites were more positive.
