<p><strong>ABOUT JOHN D. DINGELL VA MEDICAL CENTER</strong></p> <p>Located in the mixed-use Midtown area of Detroit, Mich., the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center provides <strong>residential and outpatient detox, and outpatient programs for veterans that are seeking treatment for substance abuse</strong>. It is <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MI17.pdf" target="_blank">one of the 168 (36.8 percent) of Michigan treatment facilities</a> to provide intensive outpatient programs (IOP)</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Veterans in need of treatment should visit the Reception Desk on the Seventh Floor (Blue Side) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. During these hours, they’ll be seen by <strong>triage and intake specialists</strong> for determining the services most needed. This assessment also includes screening for smoking, which only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MI17.pdf" target="_blank">272 (59.6 percent of) facilities in Michigan include in their intake process</a>.</p> <p>Clients have access to inpatient or outpatient detox services depending on their condition. Most detox clients go through the outpatient detox program as residential space is limited. The detox program offers medically assisted treatment (MAT) using medications to reduce the impact of withdrawal symptoms.</p> <p><strong>Clients work with counselors in a smoking cessation program</strong>, making this center <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MI17.pdf" target="_blank">one of the 184 (40.4 percent) of Michigan facilities</a> to provide smoking cessation counseling.</p> <p>There is also an opioid treatment program. Once the primary treatment process is completed, clients participate in <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare</a> in the form of a relapse prevention program. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The leadership team at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center has three medical doctors on it, two of whom are <strong>board-certified internists</strong>. There are also nurses and substance abuse specialists on staff. Clients work with experienced detox technicians and medical staff to manage their medications and treatment. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the VA hospital regarding its living arrangements and related offerings; however, all three Rehabs.com survey respondents to date gave five stars for the center's accommodations and meals.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this, two alumni provided positive feedback about their experience at this VA location. Both awarded the hospital five out of five stars for the "understanding" staff's level of training and experience, family programming, and counseling options. One wrote: “They always check to see if how you are coming along and if you need anything, and give help for when you are release making sure you have shelter.”</p> <p>To date, the VA as a whole has an average rating of <strong>3.2 stars out of five from 216 Google reviewers</strong> to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Alumni generally provided positive feedback about the staff, especially the “small percentage that are qualified and do a heck of a job.”</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, one loved one provided feedback about their experience at the VA. D.F.J., the friend of a former client, indicated that they’d recommend treatment and that their friend benefited from attending treatment. The loved one gave five out of five stars for family involvement, facility cleanliness, level of staff support, and the pricing.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>Rehabs.com has not received any feedback from staff members about John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. However, on Indeed, the center as a whole has an average rating of <strong>4.2 out of five stars from 37 reviews</strong> to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> Staff members generally approved of the compensation and benefits package, management received lower ratings.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>The VA accepts private health insurance. Medicare can be billed in certain circumstances.
