ABOUT FREEDOM TREATMENT CENTER

Located in Albion, Mich., not far from I-94, Freedom Treatment Center (Narconon Freedom Center) provides residential treatment for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for addiction. The facility utilizes the Narconon method of treatment, which, according to scientology.org, promotes the theories of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard regarding substance abuse treatment and addiction. Medical-detoxification services are not offered on-site. However, a specialized sauna detox program is utilized by the facility.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process of the Freedom Treatment Center focuses on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. While the facility is associated with Scientology, the teachings of the program are not explicitly taken from Scientology. Rather, the process focuses on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard that may have similar themes to the teachings of Scientology. Participation or affiliation with Scientology is not required for clients to be treated.

Much of Freedom Treatment Center's 28-day program focuses on education about substance abuse and related skills. The program provides clients with a safe, non-judgmental environment to recover from alcohol and drug addiction. According to the facility's website, the program aims to help clients communicate more effectively with others, confront and properly handle stressful situations, improve problem-solving skills, and "restore one’s ethics, integrity, morals, and responsibility."

The program utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and moral recognition therapy (MRT). Clients attend individual and group therapy, as well as life skills and education courses.

Aside from the traditional talk therapy methods, physical health is also a major component of treatment. Clients work with nutrition specialists to improve their overall nutritional intake. That way, clients’ bodies can begin to heal and recover from the effects of long-term addiction.

Throughout treatment, clients are closely monitored to measure their progress and compliance with the program. Medical screening and monitoring are used to ensure that clients are recovering physically as well as mentally. Screening and other assessments can happen on a daily basis.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

In addition to a 24-hour nursing staff and an on-call doctor, the facility's treatment team includes licensed master-level social workers. Holistic treatment specialists in fitness and nutrition are also available. Some of the staff members also work as case managers to help clients coordinate their treatments.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Freedom Treatment Center is set on 10 acres of land in a 58,000-square-foot building. Amenities include private bedrooms, gender-specific lounges, a library, a volleyball court, peaceful walking paths, a bonfire area, a gym, and a game room with a pool table, a ping-pong table, and card tables. There is also a shared dining area with a full salad bar.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, two alumni provided mostly positive feedback about their experience at the Narconon Freedom Center. The facility also works with medical loan and financing companies.

CONCLUSION

Narconon facilities around the world have been in the news since 2005 for a series of incidents related to the programs. The most notable of which is a series of lawsuits by former clients that were upset that Narconon presented itself as a rehab facility, but strictly taught Scientology rather than providing more effective treatment methods. Many of these lawsuits have been resolved in the last few years.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] http://citehealth.com/rehab-centers/michigan/cities/albion-city-in-calhoun-county/narconon
