ABOUT ELIOT COMMUNITY HUMAN SERVICES

For more than four decades, Eliot Community Human Services has provided a broad range of community-based psychiatric and behavioral health support to individuals with limited resources throughout Massachusetts. Two Eliot facilities, located in Lynn and Everett, Mass., offer outpatient treatment for addiction and substance use disorders, including court-ordered driver-alcohol education and addiction counseling.

Additional services provided by Eliot at other locations include 24-hour psychiatric emergency care, in-home therapy, early intervention services for children, and community outreach and case management to individuals with mental illness. According to the organization's website, Eliot also provides outreach, community support and case management to homeless individuals. Eliot is among the 62.8 percent of rehabs in Massachusetts to provide mental health services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Eliot clinics' treatment for substance use and other psychiatric disorders is individualized, evidence-based, and strengths-based, according to the program's website. Individual, group, family, and couples counseling sessions are all available. Additionally, Eliot often collaborates with other community service agencies in support of holistic recovery.

Two types of driving under the influence (DUI) programs target clients who are first-time or multiple-time offenders. The first DUI educational course consists of 40 hours of sessions over 16 weeks and involves substance misuse assessment, self-help meetings, and victim impact meetings.

Second-time offenders are also required to undergo drug and alcohol testing and to attend weekly Alcoholics Anonymous or other 12-step meetings along with weekly treatment groups on-site. In Massachusetts, the facility is among the 26.2 percent of facilities to provide programming for criminal justice clients.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The agency's website reports that more than 2,000 multidisciplinary staff members are employed at Eliot Community Health Services. These include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and mental health counselors.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Though Rehabs.com has not received feedback from any alumni to date, 17 individuals on Google offered a mixed range of reviews that skewed positive. For the Lynn facility, seven alumni contributed to an average rating of 4.3 out of five stars.[1] Reviews from 10 alumni of the Everett facility were less consistent, with an average rating of 3.5 stars.[2]

Positive feedback of the Everett facility tended to focus on the quality of the treatment team. However, many of those who left positive feedback emphasized that there is a high turnover rate of therapists. In a representative review, alum Tina wrote: "Go here for therapy and the people here are very friendly and helpful only issue is that there's a big turn over with therapist it has happened to me twice." Negative feedback tended to focus on inaccessibility of care.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date both gave favorable reviews of the Lynn facility. They awarded ratings of four or five out of five stars each for metrics measuring the effectiveness of treatment, opportunities for family involvement, and options in counseling approaches. They also agreed that the facility had a a well-educated staff.

"Qualified staff and diverse programs for clients," an anonymous loved one wrote in a representative review. "They are skilled and care about their patients." The reviewer did however, note that patient stays were too short. The second reviewer reported reported under-staffing issues.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Though Rehabs.com has not yet received any feedback from staff members, 62 former and current employees of several Eliot facilities gave mixed feedback on Glassdoor, offering an average rating of 2.6 out of five stars.[3] Those who left feedback relevant to client experience tended to praise the training of the staff but noted that there was a high turnover rate, echoing the sentiments of alumni reviews on Google.

FINANCING

According to the Eliot website, the agency works with many insurance and managed care plans.
