Additionally, Lemuel Shattuck Hospital offers a broad range of other medical services such as primary care, ambulatory care, and acute care.

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a state-run facility, making its substance misuse program one of four in Massachusetts (1.1 percent of all rehab facilities in the state) operated by the state.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital runs two separate programs to address individuals struggling with substance misuse. Designed to treat men and women with HIV/AIDS, the Living and Recovering Community (LARC) provides mental health and substance misuse services, as well as transitional housing and education on HIV/AIDS. Treatment within this intensive program typically last 30 to 90 days.

The second program, the Community Substance Abuse Center (CSAC), provides methadone treatment for opiate-addicted injection drug users. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 5.7 percent of rehab facilities in the United States offer a methadone maintenance program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Though the hospital's website does not provide information regarding its treatment staff, the two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date rated the staff's level of training one and five stars out of five respectively.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Although the hospital does not provide addition information regarding the living arrangements and related offerings of Living and Recovering Community, the two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave a three- and five-star rating for the facility's overall cleanliness and upkeep.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

A pair of anonymous alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date both gave highly positive reviews. One alum rated the hospital a perfect five stars for the amount of staff support, the facility's ability to resolve conflict, safety, and effectiveness of lead counselors. "It beats rotting away in jail any day," they wrote. The other alum awarded five stars for the facility's group counseling and visitor policy, writing, "I resolved all off my stress and most of my depression."

However, reviews on Google, where the facility earned an average rating of 3.2 stars based on 34 reviews, were mixed.[1] In particular, alumni were mostly split on the quality of treatment from staff, yet most agreed that accommodations were poor. Alum Kyle wrote in a representative review: "Staff and doctors are very good. Facilities are gross. Would never use the bathroom." These reviews, however, referred to many different services at the hospital and were not necessarily referring to the the substance misuse programs, in particular.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from staff members, reviews from 31 current or former employees to date on Indeed were mostly favorable.[2] Those that left commentary relevant to client experience had positive things to say. In representative reviews, one anonymous former employee wrote that the "Patients and family were happy with the care they received," while another wrote that "the ratio with patient to nurse is high." These reviews, however, referred to many different services at the hospital and were not necessarily referring to the the substance misuse programs, in particular.

FINANCING

According to the hospital's website, Lemuel accepts MassHealth, Massachusetts’ combined Medicaid, and State Children’s Health Insurance (CHIP) programs.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Lemuel-Shattuck-Hospital/reviews?sort=rating_desc
