<p><strong>ABOUT YOUTH VILLAGES - GERMAINE LAWRENCE CAMPUS</strong></p> <p>Youth Villages is a private non-profit that serves children and families in 20 states with a focus on <strong>family restoration</strong>. Located just outside of Boston, Mass., the Youth Villages Germaine Lawrence campus offers a <strong>residential treatment program, therapeutic day school, and intensive group home for adolescent girls 12-18 years old</strong> with serious emotional and behavioral issues. In Massachusetts, the facility is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">14.8 percent of facilities</a> to offer specialized programming for adolescents.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Treatment at Germaine Lawrence is evidence-based and includes <strong>individual, group, and family therapy</strong>. Treatment modalities used include trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), <a href="http://www.sevenchallenges.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Seven Challenges</strong></a>, aggression replacement training (ART), and adolescent community reinforcement approach (A-CRA). </p> <p><strong>Specialized treatment tracks</strong> are available for girls struggling with eating disorders, substance abuse, cognitive limitations, fire-setting behavior, and victims of sexual exploitation. In Massachusetts, the facility is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MA17.pdf" target="_blank">32.5 percent of facilitie</a>s to provide specialized programming for victims of sexual abuse.</p> <p>The residential treatment program includes day school and after-school activities. The <strong>intensive group home program</strong> involves 24/7 supervision and gives girls the ability to attend school in the community. The facility also offers a short-term stabilization program, <strong>Community-Based Acute Treatment (CBAT)</strong>, that lasts a few days or weeks. This program includes <strong>psycho-pharmacological treatment</strong> and intensive therapy in a structured and supervised environment.</p> <p>In addition to traditional approaches, the facility offers art therapy, recreational activities such as <strong>yoga, dance lessons, and horseback riding</strong>, and mindfulness techniques.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility's website, Youth Villages boasts a <strong>5-to-1 ratio of patients to staff</strong>. Although information regarding staff is limited, counseling sessions are conducted by master’s-level counselors. The one staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave four out of five stars for the medical and mental health credentials of staff.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The three-acre Germaine Lawrence campus is located in a residential, tree-lined neighborhood. Houses are open and spacious with <strong>single and double rooms</strong>, classrooms, and living rooms. The campus also has a gym, art room, library, and a sports field.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Although Rehabs.com has yet to review alumni feedback to date, <strong>reviews on secondary sites however were negative</strong>. On Google, 18 individuals (alumni and loved ones) gave an average rating of <strong>1.9 out of five stars</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Most complaints focused on the staff and the small portions of food served. The staff were criticized by multiple reviewers for their methods of restraining patients. "They're severely incompetent, lacking in leadership and knowledge" wrote Deb, a loved one. </p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, The single review to Rehabs.com from a staff member at the time of this writing was positive. The anonymous staff member gave the facility four out of five stars for the overall quality of executive management and leadership, as well as for the staff’s willingness to put patients first.
