<p><strong>ABOUT ST. LUKE'S INSTITUTE</strong></p> <p>Located in Silver Springs, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., St. Luke's Institute is a <strong>treatment center that exclusively treats priests, nuns, deacons, and other Catholic religious</strong> (individuals with an ordained position within the Catholic church) struggling with psychiatric concerns, as well as co-occurring behavioral difficulties. The Institute operates <strong>gender-specific residential programs</strong>, transitional housing, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and outpatient-based counseling.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Upon admission, clients undergo an initial assessment to determine individual concerns. Unique to the facility, the evaluation lasts for five days to help clinicians form a highly individualized treatment plan. The <strong>five-day evaluation</strong> includes clinical, psychological and spiritual assessments, as well as medical evaluations.The center also offers a <strong>three-week Aging and Memory Evaluation</strong> to identify signs of possible dementia due to aging and/or psychiatric disorders.</p> <p>Through the evaluation process, clinicians determine if residential treatment is necessary, and if so, the length of treatment. According to the St. Luke's Institute's website, residential treatment <strong>may last between six weeks to six months</strong>. </p> <p>Although similar, short-term and long-term residential programming differ in some areas. During residential treatment, all clients participate in individual therapy, <strong>workshops on mindfulness and skill-building</strong>, spiritual counseling sessions, as well as receive ongoing medical evaluations, nutritional consultations and <strong>medication management</strong>. </p> <p>However, the longer-term residential program, typically lasting six months, incorporates a range of therapies, including art and movement therapies, <strong>psycho-educational classes</strong>, and wellness activities, In addition, residents are assigned a <strong>spiritual formation team</strong>, which allows the facility to provide more holistic care. If necessary, the facility incorporates the <strong>12-step model of recovery</strong> into programming, Residents may attend <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-evolution-of-anonymity-in-12-step-fellowships-does-it-still-serve-a-purpose/" target="_blank">12-step meetings</a>, study fellowship literature, and perform associated "step-work."</p> <p>Once a client completes residential programming, they may be encouraged to <strong>transition into St. Luke's Institute's halfway house</strong> and/or participate in an outpatient-based program. The halfway house is designed for individuals who require more time to <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/how-the-values-of-recovery-can-transform-the-way-you-lead/" target="_blank">transition back into the community</a> and/or clergy who are transitional out of the ministry. Residents typically stay between <strong>a few weeks to a few months</strong>. </p> <p>The intensive outpatient program <strong>(IOP) requires a six-month commitment</strong> and includes group and individual counseling, as well as spirituality groups. In addition, outpatient-based counseling services are offer through the Insititute's Caritas Counseling Center, which offers specialized classes and counseling.</p> <p>St. Luke's Insitute offers <strong>extensive aftercare services</strong> for program alumni. These services include five years of follow-up, including regular on-campus renewal weeks, an assigned primary counselor, <strong>a re-entry workshop</strong> with a local support team, and weekly phone contact with a continuing care therapists for four to six weeks. Clinicians also serve as liaisons to the individual's diocesan. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>St. Luke's Insitute employs a multidisciplinary team of psychologists and therapists, a psychiatrist, neuropsychologist, a physician, a nursing staff, physical therapist, as well as nutritionist, art and, movement therapists and spiritual advisors. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>St. Luke's Insitute is comprised of the men's facility and the Talitha-Life facility for women.
