ABOUT MONTGOMERY RECOVERY SERVICES

Located on the northeastern outskirts of Rockville, Md., 15 miles northwest of Washington DC, Montgomery Recovery Services (MRS) provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and supplemental treatment services for adults seeking treatment for opioid addiction.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Montgomery Recovery Services (MRS) provides substance abuse treatment specifically for opioids on an outpatient basis. The primary method of treatment is medication-assisted treatment (MAT) utilizing methadone and Suboxone. As of 2016, Suboxone was used in 25.6% of U.S. treatment facilities. The evidence-based medication is effective in easing the discomfort of opioid withdrawal and curbing cravings.

While in MAT treatments, clients are also treated with a combination of traditional therapies. All clients participate in group therapy sessions in order to facilitate continued recovery. These sessions are mandatory while participating in MAT, and clients who do not attend meetings may have their MAT services suspended.

Treatment begins with orientation classes, which help acclimate new clients to the program and familiarize them with the medications they'll be taking, and in particular, any interactions with other drugs the client might be taking. Each client is assigned a case manager, with whom they're in contact daily for the first week or longer of treatment. Once the dosage has stabilized, clients shift to a weekly meeting schedule with their case manager.

The facility also offers specialized group counseling four days a week, including a weekly women's group, which are not mandatory. MRS aims to recognize the variability and individuality of their clients, allowing 12-Step participation or involvement in a church community to stand in for group counseling when these methods are preferable. The 12-Step program, in particular, is a popular option and incorporated in nearly 48% of U.S. treatment facilities.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The staff at MRS includes nurses, certified substance abuse counselors, and master-level administrative staff with experience working with addiction. The medical director, a board-certified MD, is on-site several times per month. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave lukewarm feedback for Montgomery Recovery Services. Citing "methadone treatment" as both a strength and a weakness of the center, R.S. gave the facility four out of five stars for its ability to treat co-occurring disorders and three stars for its treatment effectiveness, family participation, and counseling options. They also indicated that treatment was not strongly based on the 12-Steps nor any religious faith, and that they would neither recommend nor not recommend treatment at this center.

On Google, Montgomery Recovery Services earned an average of 3.7 out of five stars from nine reviews to date.[1] Reviews tend to be polarized, with some alumni giving extremely negative or very positive feedback, specifically for the staff.
