<p><strong>ABOUT TURNING POINT OF WASHINGTON COUNTY</strong></p> <p>Turning Point of Washington County is an affiliate program of Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Health Foundation, a nonprofit community-based treatment provider. Located in Hagerstown, M.D., 75 miles west of Baltimore, Turning Point provides a <strong>range of supportive and therapeutic services for individuals struggling with psychiatric disorders.</strong> It is also amongst the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD16.pdf" target="_blank">194 (48.3 percent)</a> treatment centers in the state with specialized tracks for individuals with <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring difficulties</a> involving substance abuse concerns.</p> <p>Along with <strong>homeless outreach initiatives</strong> and employment services, Turning Point provides a <strong>partial hospitalization program (PHP) and supportive housing</strong> for clientele. According to its website, PHP provides “individuals structured and meaningful daytime activity,” which combines <strong>coping skills training, peer support, and life skills training</strong>. If necessary, clients also receive <strong>pharmacological intervention and ongoing medication management</strong>.</p> <p>During PHP, clients may also participate in <strong>individual and group counseling sessions</strong>, as well as exercise and leisure activities. If relevant, programming may also incorporate <strong>psychoeducational classes on addiction</strong> and relapse prevention. The Healthy Transition Initiative (HTI) also provides age-specific day programming for individuals aged 16 to 25. In addition to treatment programming, HTI helps clients to develop personal goals through <strong>ongoing vocational training</strong> and opportunities for continued education, as well as support, linkage, and client advocacy to promote self-sufficiency.</p> <p>Along with vocational training during PHP, Turning Point coordinates with community employers to provide <strong>supportive employment opportunities</strong> for clientele. If necessary, Turning Point also operates supportive housing facilities for individuals struggling with serious and/or persistent mental illness. </p> <p>To meet the specific needs of veterans, Turning Point of Washington County <strong>provides veterans with vocational training and education</strong>, as well as employment assistance and support. Turning Point also coordinates with Department of Veteran’s Affairs to provide <strong>supportive housing for homeless veterans</strong>. In Maryland, Turning Point is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD17.pdf" target="_blank">20.7 percent of facilities</a> to offer tailored programming for veterans.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Turning Point of Washington County employs a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, licensed professional counselors, clinical social workers, case managers, residential facilitators, employment specialists, registered nurses, and a support team of psychiatric technicians. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from this facility's former clients, <strong>secondary sites revealed high levels of dissatisfaction</strong>. On Google, two reviewers gave the facility one out of five stars, while one reviewer gave a perfect five stars. <small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> The only written commentary came from an individual who criticized the facility's staff and felt the environment was "unsafe." Out of five stars, the employee gave a two-star rating for the facility’s counseling options; however, this individual gave four stars for the facility’s discharge planning and for the level of family participation. Citing “staff experience” as a facility strength, they still felt that employees could be more compassionate. The employee also cited facility safety as a concern. “Security for staff would also be a benefit for their safety and the clients,” the employee added.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Health Foundation <strong>accepts private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and Tricare</strong>.
