ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND - PRINCE GEORGE’S HOSPITAL CENTER

Located in Cheverly, Md., the University of Maryland's Prince George's Hospital Center offers a full continuum of behavioral health treatment services to adult men and women. Services include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), emergency psychiatric services, and inpatient behavioral health treatment.

Prince George’s Hospital Center was founded in 1944 as an acute care teaching hospital and is now affiliated with the larger UM Capital Region Health (formerly Dimensions Health System), a non-profit health system serving residents of Prince George’s County since 1982.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Prince George offers 24-hour emergency psychiatric assessments as well as a 23-hour observation unit. The unit observes clients' psychiatric conditions overnight and determines an appropriate level of care. During this time, patients may participate in behavioral and mental health assessment.

Prince George's inpatient unit offers a community-based treatment model. Mental health disorders addressed in treatment include situational, affective, and anxiety disorders, as well as psychotic illnesses and dual diagnoses.

Inpatients participate in frequent group therapy and also receive individual and family therapy, medication management, recreation, art, and occupational therapy, and mental health education during treatment. Patients struggling with a primary or co-occurring substance abuse disorder may also participate in relapse prevention workshops, be introduced to peer-support networks, and attend educational classes on addiction.

PHP and IOP offer individual, group, and family therapy along with expressive and occupational therapies and psychoeducation in a structured outpatient setting. The facility allows clients to go home in the evening and remain engaged with their support system while still receiving treatment from the psychiatric program.

PHP clients receive treatment up to six hours per day for five days per week. As clients progress in their treatment, the program is flexible and allows for “step-down” options to less intensive services. Community and outreach services offered include a smoking cessation program and other support groups for clients, family members, and support systems.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Prince George's treatment team includes psychiatrists, physicians, counselors, dietitians, registered nurses, pharmacists and social workers. The team also includes a variety of psychiatric personnel such as nurse educators, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and technicians.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by Prince George regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.
