<p><strong>ABOUT A.F. WHITSITT CENTER</strong></p> <p>The A.F. Whitsitt Center is the <strong>residential substance abuse treatment facility</strong> for the Health Department of Kent County, Md. The facility is located in the community of Chestertown and offers treatment for <strong>adult men and women</strong> struggling with chemical dependency, as well as <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring mental health disorders</a>. Medically-monitored detox services are available on-site.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>All clients receive a <strong>full medical assessment</strong> in order to determine an individualized plan for treatment. Many of the facility’s clients are referred from other programs. <strong>Priority admission is given to expectant mothers</strong>, making the facility among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/MD16.pdf" target="_blank">24% of facilities in the state</a> to offer services specifically for pregnant women. The length of stay depends on individual client needs.</p> <p>Clients may be admitted to the detox unit based on their evaluation. They are monitored around-the-clock by behavioral and medical specialists to help them through withdrawal. In some cases, <strong>medication-assisted treatment (MAT)</strong> is available during detox to help minimize withdrawal symptoms. </p> <p>Treatment includes <strong>individual therapy</strong>, group counseling, and <strong>relapse prevention groups</strong>, as well as educational presentations on topics such as grief and loss and <strong>gender-specific issues</strong>. The A.F. Whitsitt Center also incorporates the <strong>12-step model of recovery</strong> to promote community involvement and foster peer support during the recovery process. Dually diagnosed clients also receive mental health diagnosis and education, as well as <strong>medication education and management</strong>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The A.F. F. Whitsitt Center. Their feedback was mixed. One alum simply wrote that the facility was the "Worst place ever!" Alum Christina indicated that attended the facility "was the most positive experience in my life at the time!"</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing had different opinions of the A.F. Whitsitt Center. One anonymous loved one left a positive review, awarding the facility four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, its family participation, its counseling options, and its staff’s level of training and experience. The one category that received a below-average rating was the holistic treatment offerings, for which the reviewer gave the facility just two stars. </p> <p>Loved one B.M., however, awarded the facility just two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness and noted dissatisfaction with the rehab's treatment of co-occurring disorders. “[Dual] treatment was needed was not provided,” she wrote.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>The facility accepts private insurance and is <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">one of the 34% of U.S. facilities</a> that accepts Medicare. A sliding fee scale is also offered to clients who qualify.</p> <p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p> <p>Many staff members at the A.F.
