ABOUT MARYLAND RECOVERY

In the picturesque colonial town of Bel Air, Maryland Recovery offers outpatient treatment and sober-living facilities for adult men and women ages 18 to 30, and seniors, who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Medical detox is not available on-site. Many clients come to this facility after completing a traditional residential rehab.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, Maryland Recovery bills its treatment as “residential outpaitent,” because it combines outpatient treatment with sober-living facilities.

The first option is a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that lasts 28 days and involves programming between five and six hours a day, seven days a week. Treatment modalities include individual and group therapy, medication management, psychiatric medical treatment, and aftercare planning.

The second option is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that includes individual, group, and family therapy, plus family education; relapse-prevention work; treatment for co-occurring disorders; 12-step meetings; and holistic therapies such as yoga, meditation, drumming therapy, and acupuncture.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, psychiatrists and addiction specialists are “on standby” during Phase One, however it’s not clear whether they’re on staff. The medical director is a physician trained in emergency medicine, and the facility also employs two licensed clinical social workers and other counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Details about living arrangements are limited at this time. Ratings from four Rehabs.com reviewers (one alum and three loved ones) to date averaged 4.75 out of five stars for both accommodations and amenities as well as meals and nutrition.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

A single review submitted to Rehabs.com from a former client gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. Brett wrote: "I LOVED this place and all the people I met! You only get oUT what you pUT in. I owe alot to the staff there."

Elsewhere online to date, one Yelp reviewer was very displeased with their experience. “This 'Recovery' house is not what they claim,” Ryan wrote.[1] “They took a lot of money including charges I did not authorize and provided none of the services so nicely described in the brochure. This is a scam!"

Alumni provided more positive reviews on Facebook. To date, 11 of the 12 people who left reviews on the center’s Facebook page, which it has the ability to manage, provided five out of five star reviews.[2] On average, the center has 4.9 stars on Facebook at the time of this writing.

Some alumni wrote they would recommend the center, and others praised the staff. “I must say they seem to do great and much-needed work I commend them for all their hard work and caring...I would very much recommend it,” Donald wrote in a representative review on Facebook.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave mostly positive feedback, offering moderate to perfect, five-star ratings for all categories. "This is a wonderful program. Bel Aire is a great town and the recovery support is great. My daughter attended after a 28 day detox intense rehab. With the results you do not worry about the money," wrote Berry, who gave four stars for treatment effectiveness.

Yet on YellowPages.com, the one reviewer, Jym, provided negative feedback. “The sales pitch is very convincing,” he wrote.[3] “However, the place is very pricey, and very misleading.” He went on to write that his daughter was thrown out of the facility because her depression could not be treated, despite earlier promises that it could.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Though Rehabs.come has yet to receive feedback from staff members, two ratings on Indeed to date indicated mixed experiences.[4] One anonymous respondent gave three stars and wrote: "if you want to grow with a company, they are it, but becareful of people who want you to hide your knowledge. they get intimidated." Another gave just one star and wrote: "Poor leadership, sick environment. Mistreatment of staff and underhanded practices.

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, insurance carriers including Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna are accepted. The website also notes that insurers often pay for the clinical portion of treatment, but not the residential portion.

[1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/maryland-iop-partners-bel-air-2
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/MDRecovery/reviews/?ref=page_internal
[3] https://www.yellowpages.com/bel-air-md/mip/maryland-recovery-partners-inc-10380581
[4] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Maryland-Recovery-Partners/reviews?fcountry=US&floc=Bel+Air%2C+MD
