ABOUT MAGELLAN HEALTH SERVICES

Magellan Health Services provides a range of behavioral health services through Louisiana’s Coordinated System of Care (CSoC). Individuals at any stage of life and their families have access to crisis services and supportive psychiatric programs across inpatient, outpatient, and home settings.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment provided through Louisiana’s CSoC takes place in a variety of settings. Individuals requiring immediate attention due to a crisis or a severe and persistent mental health issue can receive help at a local emergency room, a medical behavioral health clinic, and at one’s school or place of employment.

For those with non-life-threatening issues, according to the organization’s website, there are several short-term program options available. These include a psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) and a therapeutic group home (TGH) for youth under the age of 21, as well as community-based psychiatric treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation services, both of which are available through Louisiana’s Wraparound Agency (WAA). In these programs, children and teens receive counseling in problem-solving and basic life skills, helping them better navigate school and friendships. Clinical staff may prescribe children medication where necessary.

The CSoC also runs support and training programs, like its Family Support Organization (FSO), where families can learn from other families with similar experiences, and youth can learn from other youth.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Louisiana’s CSoC employs medical doctors, psychologists, advanced practice nurses, licensed counselors and social workers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the agency regarding the living arrangements and related offerings of its inpatient programs. The single Rehabs.com survey respondent to date gave only one star for their respective facility’s accommodations but five stars for its level of cleanliness.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Although they gave only one star for overall treatment effectiveness, the single anonymous Rehabs.com survey respondent to date, a loved one, recommended treatment here and found it “very family friend(ly).” They also awarded the facility that their loved one attended five stars for its counseling options and its staff’s level of training and experience, amongst other categories.

FINANCING

Per Magellan Health Services' website, the Louisiana Behavioral Health Partnership (LBHP) serves individuals who are both eligible and ineligible for Medicaid.
