ABOUT TOWNSEND - NEW ORLEANS

One of eight facilities in the Louisiana-based Townsend Recovery Centers network, Townsend of New Orleans provides intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment for adult men and women struggling with chemical dependency and other addictions, including sex addiction, overeating, and gambling. Where necessary, outpatient-based, medical detoxification is also provided.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, clients meet with a clinician upon admission for a substance abuse assessment to create an individualized plan of care. The New Orleans location holds both day and evening sessions to accommodate various client schedules.

Townsend’s treatment approach is designed to address the neurobiological factors of addiction, namely the effect of substances or behaviors on the brain’s reward centers. The program also offers genetic testing to further investigate what may make a client more susceptible to addiction.

Throughout treatment, clients attend group counseling sessions and educational classes on substance abuse. Family participation is highly recommended, as the program holds a family night each week. Clients recovering from opioids may receive medication-assisted therapy (i.e. Suboxone and naltrexone) to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

The facility also offers ongoing, specialized support for those with a chronic disease, according to the program’s website.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center’s website states the New Orleans staffs a team of psychiatrists, licensed professional counselors, and case managers. The center also employs phlebotomists to facilitate genetic testing.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

A.G., the single alum surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, was quite critical. A.G. called Townsend “by far the biggest scam treatment center ever,” adding: “They teach you nothing about recovery...This is not a good place for someone trying to get sober.”

As an organization, Townsend Recovery Centers has an average rating of 4.0 stars out of five from 28 Facebook users though only two of these shared written feedback. Michelle called it a "terrible scam" while Miranda wrote: "I attend here now and I love it."[1] Two Google reviewers also awarded the center five stars but left no further commentary.[2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

An anonymous loved one, by contrast, shared much more positive feedback. They gave four out of five stars in indicating how strongly they’d recommend Townsend in New Orleans, as well as four stars for the counseling options available, the staff’s level of training and experience, and the family program.

“I think it's a good "In and out" facility,” they told Rehabs.com. “I wouldn't recommend it for long term stay. I wish they were well equipped for long-term. It's a great facility for short term.”

FINANCING

According to its website, Townsend of New Orleans accepts private insurance to cover the cost of treatment. Patients are responsible for co-payments and deductibles, and financing may be available for those who qualify.

CONCLUSION

As of January 28, 2019, all Townsend facilities are no longer owned and operated by American Addiction Centers (AAC). They are now a part of Avenues Recovery Centers.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/townsendaddictionrecovery/reviews/?ref=page_internal
[2] https://goo.gl/6WhZdv
