ABOUT 2ND CHANCE OUTREACH

Located on a corner lot on a residential street in central Winchester, just east of Lexington in central Kentucky, 2nd Chance Outreach offers Christian non-medical detox, residential, and outpatient programs, and transitional living facilities, for individuals struggling with addiction. The organization's Facebook page indicates that there is also a facility in Campbellsville, Ky.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

2nd Chance Outreach aims to help its clients get to the root causes of their addictive behaviors, addressing the mental, physical, and spiritual components of addiction. There's dedicated, separate programming for adolescents and adults on each of the treatment tracks detailed below.

The earliest intervention the organization offers is a non-medical detox program, which offers support for individuals withdrawing from a range of substances, including opiates, alcohol, cocaine, and other drugs.

The residential program offers individualized care, built around Christian 12-step principles as well as individual and group counseling, education about addiction and recovery, and education and other programming for families. The program emphasizes peer support and the social component of treatment. In order to help them prepare for life after treatment, residents also attend relapse-prevention sessions and work on transition planning. All graduates can access weekly aftercare groups.

Outpatient treatment is offered at a variety of intensities: there's a day treatment/partial hospitalization program (PHP), and general outpatient care at variable, tailored levels. The PHP follows the same program as residential care, but clients are free to return home at the end of each day. Outpatient services offer similar modalities to residential care, with flexible scheduling to suit a variety of schedules. Like residents, outpatient clients receive access to weekly aftercare groups.

While receiving outpatient care, clients may live in the facility's independent-living homes, where they must agree to random urinalysis testing and remain active in their recovery. All residents work, attend school, or go to treatment during the day.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

2nd Chance Outreach was founded by a husband-and-wife team who are themselves in recovery from addiction. The four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff's level of training and experience gave it a 4.5-star average rating.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The center's sober-living homes are monitored by house managers. There is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, the five individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's cleanliness, accommodations, and meals/nutrition gave them average ratings of four stars, 3.8 stars, and 3.8 stars respectively. One of the reviewers complained about a lack of access to laundry facilities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date would strongly recommend treatment at 2nd Chance Outreach. "Facility was clean and maintained," they wrote anonymously, giving the facility four stars for its holistic offerings and counseling options and five stars in most of the remaining treatment metrics, including its treatment effectiveness, family participation, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders.

Secondary sites yielded mostly positive reviews at the time of this writing: 2nd Chance Outreach had a 4.4-star average rating based on 20 reviews on Facebook (where the organization can manage its own page) and a single five-star rating on YellowPages.com.[1] [2] The two negative reviews among these reports cited unethical behavior, one of them adding that they had been removed from the program for "behavior problems." "It is horrible and it's a shame because it religious based but the people who are suppose to care do not care!" D.J.M. wrote in a representative review on Facebook, and on the same site J.R. added that there were hardly any extracurricular activities for men on the program.

However, the majority of the reviews were positive, with alumni often crediting 2nd Chance Outreach with saving or changing their lives, and expressing gratitude to the center's staff and leadership. "This place along with God's Grace and Love, saved my life. I met some of the best people there. I had lost all hope, the light at the end of the tunnel was gone... Now that I am recovering I have hope, I have peace and joy that I had not had in years," C.R. wrote in a representative review on Facebook.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of the three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date, two would recommend 2nd Chance Outreach and one would not. The single negative reviewer gave the facility one star for its leadership and listed as weaknesses of the facility: "Food, lack of supervision, cleaniness handling of money on account, laundry."

Both of the positive reviewers gave 2nd Chance Outreach four-and five-star ratings for its treatment effectiveness, holistic offerings, and counseling options. Meanwhile, the center's family participation and ability to treat co-occurring disorders each received a three-star rating and a five-star rating. "Excellent service from this place I just whole heartedly enciurage drug addicts to go here if they truly want to get clean," one of the reviewers wrote anonymously, adding that their brother had achieved long-term sobriety at the facility.
