ABOUT WESTCARE PIKE COUNTY COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT CENTER (CIC)/OUTPATIENT PROGRAM - PIKEVILLE

Operating under WestCare, a network of substance abuse, mental health, HIV/AIDS, and domestic violence programs across 18 states, Pike County’s Community Involvement Center (CIC) is an outpatient alcohol and drug abuse program for residents of Pikeville, Ky., and the surrounding areas. The CIC also provides DUI assessments and re-entry services for 80 adult offenders and ex-offenders at the Pike County Detention Center. Detox is not available through this program.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients receive an initial substance abuse and mental health assessment to determine the intensity of their treatment plan. The intensity can vary from over 10 hours per week of programming to a minimal aftercare with one group session per week.

The treatment process focuses primarily on counseling for treatment. The CIC uses a combination of individual and group counseling sessions. For clients that need assistance beginning the recovery process, there are crisis intervention services available.

Education courses are also an important factor in the treatment process. The facility provides specialized drug and alcohol classes to teach clients about the different methods of treatment, as well as sober living skills.

The facility also connects clients with community-based treatment programs in the area. The facility hosts community programs that clients and their families are encouraged to attend. This provides some level of family support so that clients can build a support network.

The CIC is one of the 144 (40.1 percent) of Kentucky treatment facilities to provide job training and rehabilitation services. Clients that need continuing services, detox, or other services can get a referral for those programs.

The facility is one of the 257 (71.6 percent) of the facilities in the state to use drug screening in the treatment process. Clients work closely with counselors to develop a sober living plan that includes planning for their overall wellness.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no information provided on the facility's website or otherwise regarding its treatment staff. The two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com rated the counselor's level of training and experience five out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has received feedback from two alumni of WestCare’s Pikeville facility. The feedback was mostly positive.

The alumni gave four and five out of five stars to the level of staff support, overall quality of individual counseling, and the consistency of group meetings. Overall, both individuals felt the program gave them the proper tools to aid in recovery and that the groups were engaging.

Former client J.C.Q. wrote how “The structured regiment was just short of what I experienced in the military in college. The groups were challenging and eye opening.” Another former client, Brian, reported to Rehabs.com that he relapsed after six months and unlike the high ratings of the other alum, felt flexibility and quality of group counseling were lacking with one- and two-star ratings, respectively.

On Google, Westcare Emergency Shelter, as a whole, earned an average of four out of five stars from 23 reviews to date.[1] Most of the reviews were positive, with specific feedback about the “well-staffed’ facility known for doing “so many helpful and amazing things.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

C.P., the single loved one of an alum to evaluate WestCare’s Pikeville facility through a Rehabs.com survey at the time of this writing, felt their family member, who was in treatment for three to six months, did not benefit from their time in the program. "My loved one doesn't think he needs help," C.P. wrote. The family member did, however, note they would recommend the facility to family and friends. They gave five out of five stars for its accommodations and four out of five stars for its exercise offerings.

FINANCING

According to two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, WestCare accepts self-pay and is one of the 171 (47.6 percent) facilities in the state that accept state/federal insurance. Both also reported the facility did not offer financial assistance.

[1] GoogleReviews
