ABOUT HOPE CENTER – BALL-QUANTRELL RECOVERY CENTER FOR WOMEN

Located in Lexington, Ky., the Hope Center is a nonprofit organization offering a variety of services for homeless and at-risk individuals. The facility’s Ball-Quantrell Recovery Center for Women was opened in 2002 and provides long-term residential substance abuse treatment for homeless or marginally housed women ages 18 and older. Medically monitored detoxification services are not offered on-site — all clients must be medically cleared before entering treatment.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All potential clients receive an over-the-phone screening and are placed on a waiting list prior to admission. Treatment typically lasts nine to 12 months and begins with the SOS (Safe, Off-the-Street Sobriety) entry-point program, in which clients get acclimated and receive a recovery plan developed by staff.

During treatment, clients obtain Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) sponsors. The program utilizes the Recovery Dynamics curriculum, which combines 12-step principles with group lectures, discussion groups, and journaling. Alumni of the program live on-site and serve as peer mentors. They train to teach Recovery Dynamics classes, help clients with personal assignments, and mentor newcomers to the program.

Job readiness preparation is offered as clients get closer to program completion, and transitional housing options are available on-site. There is also an on-campus health clinic to provide for women with mental health and physical issues.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Recovery Center treatment team includes a nurse practitioner who conducts physical assessments and provides health education, a psychiatrist, and psychiatric nurses. Past clients serve as peer mentors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Women living at the Recovery Center's transitional living residences share a tight-knit community environment designed to help them develop daily life skills and practice sober living. All clients share chores including cooking, cleaning, laundry, and grounds work. Children may not spend the night with their mothers, but staff will coordinate other services to provide safe care for clients' children.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

To date, three alumni have provided feedback for Hope Center to Rehabs.com, and one alum has submitted feedback in twelve additional metrics. The three reviews are mostly positive, giving four out of five stars or higher for treatment effectiveness and accommodations.

Alum Ann rated the program a perfect five stars for 12-step programming and cleanliness and four stars for family participation, but only one star for holistic treatment offerings and the visitor policy. While she noted that the program did not provide much in the way of leisure activities, the alum told Rehabs.com that the community-based model was effective and helpful: “You work your way up to more freedom. It really goes beyond just recovery it's also about responsibility and accountability."

On Google, the Hope Center Lexington organization as a whole (not just the women’s recovery center) received 3.1 out of five stars from 39 reviews to date.[1] A staff member and alum rating the Recovery Center specifically wrote that staff were helpful with homeless clients. In a five-star review, alum Christina wrote the facility was "Helping the homeless with housing, employment and so much more."

FINANCING

According to HealthGrove, the Recovery Center accepts state insurance other than Medicaid and offers fees on a sliding scale.

[1] https://goo.gl/mhpba6
