ABOUT TRANSITIONS, INC. RESIDENTIAL CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY TREATMENT

Founded in 1969, Transitions, Inc. is a nonprofit agency that provides a full spectrum of services for individuals in northern Kentucky and Cincinatti who are struggling with substance use disorder and dual diagnosis. Across the facility's various locations, clients can access non-medical detox, residential care, outpatient programs, and housing.

The Women's Residential Addiction Program (WRAP) provides residential care for women, including pregnant women (for whom there are dedicated programs at 28.4 percent of Kentucky-based facilities) and mothers. The facility is among just seven centers in Kentucky that offer residential beds for clients' children β at WRAP, those children must be under the age of 12.

The wait list for residential treatment is typically two to four months long. In December 2018, Transitions opened a new, 180-bed treatment center in Erlanger, Ky.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at the Womenβs Residential Addiction Program (WRAP) begins with a comprehensive substance abuse disorder assessment. Treatment is abstinence-based and encourages participation in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and/or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Clients also participate in individual and group therapy sessions and learn basic life skills and budgeting. The length of stay varies according to the client's needs, but can last several months.

All clients who are able to work are required to do so, and clients also carry out community service tasks. To help its clients toward functional employment, Transitions is among the 40.1 percent of Kentucky-based facilities that offer vocational training for its clients. Residents also participate in relapse prevention sessions throughout their stay, and following treatment, they're invited to participate in aftercare counseling for up to a year.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

All counselors have a bachelorβs degree or higher, often in psychology, social work, or related sciences. Transitions also requires employees to be certified or working toward certification though the states of Kentucky or Ohio. Out of five stars, the three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff's level of training and experience gave it a two-star, a three-star, and a four-star rating.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Childcare is available on-site, enabling clients to work and participate during treatment. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's cleanliness and upkeep gave it three- and four-star ratings. The center's exercise and leisure offerings received just two stars from all three individuals polled.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the four alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, two were positive, one mixed, and one negative. "Location is a dump. Understaffed.Staff not professional," was the appraisal of the unhappy reviewer, J.S. Fellow alum Tara complained of a lack of resources and inadequate focus on treating addiction.

However, Tara also noted that the center helped her, and allowed her to stay with her children while she received help. βI do believe the intention of the Wrap house is to help people," she wrote. "Th.ey gave me the tools to live a clean and sober life," added another anonymous alum. The two alumni polled on the overall quality of the center's group and individual counseling gave four- and five-star ratings in both categories, though the single alum polled on the center's holistic offerings and ability to treat co-occurring disorders gave the metrics one and two stars, respectively.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Both of the loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed feedback. Though they both gave the facility four stars for its family participation, the center's ability to treat co-occurring disorders received just a two-star rating and a three-star rating. Their comments described a facility that provided an invaluable service, though was somewhat overtaxed with its current staff and amenities: "Staff not trained for the type of work, too lax on rules lack of control," one anonymous reviewer wrote; "Very busy," the other added, though they went on to say: "They provide adequate services in a high needs area."

On secondary sites, WRAP had a single five-star rating from a man on Google with no accompanying commentary.[1]

WHAT STAFF SAY

Rehabs.com hasn't yet polled any Transitions staffers, but the agency had mixed feedback, skewing positive, on employment review sites, with average ratings of four out of five stars based on 47 reviews on Indeed and 2.1 out of five stars based on 12 reviews on Glassdoor (note: these reviews apply to the organization as a whole, not WRAP in particular).[2] [3]

Many reviewers spoke very highly of their coworkers and of the organization's work and mission: "Pros: Drug treatment and cares about residents. Good community standings. Supports/helps drug addiction. Only women's center in NKY," one reviewer wrote in a representative review on Glassdoor. However, the reviews also featured numerous complaints of poor management, ranging from a lack of support for staff to an excessive interest in money above client care. "Management doesn't stand up to company ideals," read a typical comment on Glassdoor.

FINANCING

Transitions Inc. is a nonprofit funded through federal and state governments, foundations, and donors. Services are offered to Kentucky residents and homeless individuals, regardless of their ability to pay.

CONCLUSION

The new Transitions' 180-bed facility in Erlanger, Ky. serves both men and women and includes a 30-bed wing set aside specifically for pregnant women struggling with substance abuse disorders. According to a news report, the facility is designed to offer immediate care. "We'll be able to provide treatment on demand for people in Northern Kentucky, so if you call at 11 today, you're going to come in right away - no more wait list," CEO Jim Beiting said.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Transitions/reviews
[3] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Transitions-Reviews-E713756.htm
