Editorial Review

ABOUT BELLEFONTE HOSPITAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER

Located just outside of Bellefonte in Ashland, Ky., Bellefonte Hospital's Behavioral Health program offers residential and outpatient treatment services to adults seeking treatment for chemical dependency, mental health disorders, or co-occurring disorders. A detoxification unit is located on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process at Bellefonte Hospital Behavioral Health Center focuses on a comprehensive care process that walks clients through all of the steps of recovery. If necessary, clients can begin with the detox program. Bellefonte is one of only 16 hospital-based facilities to offer detox in the state. Clients are overseen by a group of medical and addiction specialists who can manage withdrawal symptoms through medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

While in treatment, clients participate in a combination of education courses, counseling services, and medication management, as applicable. One of the leading components of Bellefonte’s treatment and aftercare plan is the 12-Step program, which is used in 71 percent of Kentucky’s facilities.

There is a specialized program for seniors at the facility as well. Up to 16 seniors can be treated at one time, and treatment methods focus on the needs of aging clients. In Kentucky, specialized services for seniors are only offered at 17.8 percent of facilities.

Family support is an important part of treatment, and Bellefonte offers a variety of support services to clients’ family member, such as counseling sessions, educational classes, and Al-Anon meetings held on-site.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes registered nurses, recreational therapists, and licensed clinical therapists. However, the hospital itself has access to physicians and specialists in other areas that can be consulted if needed. The single alum surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave Bellefonte Hospital three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The hospital's residential unit and detox unit have 12 beds each. There is also a 16-bed psychiatric unit designed specifically for seniors. The facility is clinical in nature, and during their stay, clients have access to medical personnel at all times. The single former client polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility three out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave Bellefonte Hospital's Behavioral Health Program mixed feedback. The alum's biggest complaint was the program's lack of activities, awarded the hospital just one out of five stars for its counseling options, its exercise and leisure activities, and its 12-step inclusion and wrote: "This facility is just a quick detox. It doesn't offer a lot of counseling. They give you your detox med and basically the rest of the day you read or watch tv." Four out of five stars or higher were given to Bellefonte for its meals and nutrition and its cleanliness. When asked, on a scale from one to five, if they would recommend the facility, the alum gave a rating of three.

FINANCING

Bellefonte accepts most commercial insurance plans. It is also one of the 39.3 percent of facilities in the state that accepts Medicare, and the 64.6 percent of facilities that accepts Medicaid. A financial assistance program is available for uninsured clients. The single alum surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave Bellefonte Hospital two out of five stars for its affordability.

CONCLUSION

Through the facility’s Facebook page, Bellefonte promotes a long list of support groups for community members that the hospital hosts. There are support groups nearly every day of the week for a wide range of topics, including behavioral health alumni groups.
