<p><strong>ABOUT SHAWNEE MISSION HEALTH</strong></p> <p>Shawnee Mission Health is a large health network of hospital campuses and physician offices throughout Kansas City. Sharing campus’ with the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, 12 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City, the hospital’s behavioral health department provides <strong>inpatient medical detox and intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment</strong> for adults aged 18 and older facing substance abuse and mental health issues.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Shawnee Mission Medical Center bases its behavioral health programs on a combination of medical services, holistic and alternative therapies, and <strong>12-step principles</strong>.</p> <p>Inpatient treatment offers <strong>medication management</strong> along with group therapy, family therapy, and <strong>morning yoga</strong>. Training is provided to help clients build the coping and processing skills needed to recover from mood disorders, grief and loss, trauma, and other issues. Clients work directly with licensed therapists in determining an effective treatment plan of evidence-based therapies, often including <strong>cognitive behavioral (CBT) and dialectical behavior (DBT) therapies</strong>, that continues with them throughout rehab. Those in detox also attend recovery groups and weekly meetings with their families.</p> <p>In the <strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP) for mental health, addiction, and dual diagnosis</strong>, clients meet three times per week, three hours at a time for a month. Programs are available in the morning or the evening. Participants of the IOP learn to apply the 12 steps while developing coping skills and receiving therapeutic support throughout treatment. Graduates of IOP are encouraged to attend <strong>free weekly aftercare groups</strong> for an entire year following treatment.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Staff includes <strong>psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses</strong>, clinical and expressive therapists, behavioral health technicians, pharmacists, chaplains, and <strong>dietitians</strong>.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, the four alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility an average rating of 3.25 out of five stars for the facility’s accommodations.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p><strong>Rehabs.com has received mixed feedback from four program alumni to date</strong>. On average, the four alumni shared ratings of 3.75 stars out of five for treatment effectiveness, three stars for its meals and nutrition, and 2.5 stars for its leisure opportunities.</p> <p>In their written commentary, alum J.B. maintained that the “Rehab is only as good as the mindset of the attendee” while an anonymous alum referred to the detox program as “Horrific” and “horrible.” A third alum told Rehabs.com of their subpar experience: “I don’t think I received anything other than a pat on the back when I left.
