<p><strong>ABOUT LARNED STATE HOSPITAL</strong></p> <p>Set on a 78-acre campus, Larned State Hospital (LSH) is an <strong>inpatient psychiatric facility</strong> serving the western two-thirds of Kansas. According the facility’s website, it’s the largest psychiatric hospital in the state. <a href="http://mental-health-facilities.healthgrove.com/l/4847/Larned-State-Hospital" target="_blank">HealthGrove also reports</a> that LSH treats a wide range of co-occurring mental health disorders, including behavioral disorders, dissociative disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse disorders, anxiety, and depression.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>While the facility’s website offers little information regarding the specifics of LSH’s treatment programs, it notes that its mission is to “provide a safety net of mental health services for Kansans in partnership with consumers, community providers and the justice system, and to deliver support services to related agencies.”</p> <p>HealthGrove reported that treatment at Larned State Hospital includes addiction counseling, family therapy, group therapy, individual psychotherapy, medication management, and psychological evaluation. The facility also has reportedly has a crisis intervention team.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, the hospital employs nearly 1,000 employees of varying . LSH is accredited by the Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It is one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/KS16.pdf" target="_blank">98 percent of Kansas</a> facilities to be accredited, licensed or certified.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The LSH website says that the facility can host up to 450 patients within its “state-of-the-art” accommodations. Healthgrove suggests that LSH offers community service, relaxation services, and teaches social skills among other activities at the facility. While there is currently no information available regarding living arrangements and related offerings, the sole loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at time of this writing gave the hospital three out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities. Two staffers surveyed rated LSH four and five out of five stars respectively for its accommodations and amenities.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, 10 Google reviewers gave LHS a low average rating of 2.3 out of five stars.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Commenters that the staff was inadequate and too small to handle the volume of patients. Others wrote that the accommodations, particularly the beds, were not comfortable. Some, however, stated that although the facility wasn’t the best, it did help them with recovery anyway.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility a mixed review, and added that it is much better equipped to handle mental health disorders than substance abuse disorders. He or she gave just two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness as a result.</p> <p>“They aren't really equipped or have the right kind of staff for substance abuse,” the reviewer wrote.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>Two former staff members who submitted reviews to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave LSH four or five out of five stars across 15 different metrics, particularly discharge processes and accommodations. Though both felt the staff was adequate, one reviewer commented that it was hard to keep good, qualified staff around.</p> <p>Echoing alumni, the employees noted that the facility needed more staff to handle the large number of clients in the program.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to LSH’s website, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.
