Editorial Review

ABOUT ST. LUKE'S CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY

A program of UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, St. Luke’s Chemical Dependency program offers evaluation, intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, relapse prevention, intervention training, counseling, aftercare, and more for individuals and families in need.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients meet with a professional counselor for a comprehensive evaluation to determine appropriate treatment recommendations. Where necessary, referrals for medically managed detox are provided.

Within St. Luke’s Chemical Dependency program are two outpatient options: an IOP that makes use of group therapy, individual counseling, and 12-step support groups, as well as a five-week extended track that focuses more on early intervention. The IOP runs three days a week for about 10 weeks.

Also available at St. Luke’s is a program that helps graduates prevent relapse following treatment, intervention training for loved ones, weekly aftercare groups, and professional speaking engagements.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The IOP at St. Luke’s is run by a team of doctors, addictions counselors and family therapists, social workers, nutritionists, and other professional staff.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Feedback provided by two Rehabs.com survey respondents was very much polarized. While both alumni shared ratings of four or five stars for the family programming and policies concerning connectivity outside the facility, they disagreed on nearly every other aspect of treatment. One left similarly high marks for treatment effectiveness, accommodations, affordability, exercise and leisure options, and discharge procedures, yet the other gave only two stars in each of these areas. “You have to want it and give 100%,” the former added.

On Google, one-star reviewer Chad shared details of his frustrating experience: “I went here for a substance abuse evaluation after receiving my first OWI, they recommend me for their Intensive outpatient classes because I got a public intox 16 years ago. So if you go here for an evaluation expect to spend 90 hours in classes and $10,500. No joke it's 30 three hour classes, at $350 per class.”[1]

FINANCING

Payment for treatment services can be made in cash or by check or credit card. The hospital accepts private health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid, and offers financial assistance for qualified individuals.

[1] https://goo.gl/mhV34S
