<p><strong>ABOUT RICHMOND STATE HOSPITAL</strong></p> <p>Richmond State Hospital in northwestern Indiana is a state-operated behavioral health facility serving adult and geriatric populations from across the state. It provides an <strong>inpatient recovery</strong> environment and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">dual diagnosis treatment</a> for people struggling with psychiatric disorders and/or substance abuse.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>All incoming patients are screened at a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) prior to admission.</p> <p>Richmond State Hospital is a federally funded facility that strives to provide <strong>individualized, holistic healthcare</strong>. The hospital offers three specialized “service lines” to best address the varying needs of its clients. There is the Hope and Recovery Service Line, the most intensive of the residential programs; the Recovery and Transition Service Line, designed to <strong>promote independence and reintegration into the community</strong>; and the Integrated Dual Diagnosis Recovery Service Line, which is for individuals with co-occurring addiction and mental health disorders.</p> <p>The Hope and Recovery Service line also includes art therapy, sensory stimulation, groups centered on social skills and women's issues, training in adult daycare, and activities including morning stretching, games, car rides, and storytelling.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The staff at Richmond State Hospital includes physicians, nurses, psychiatric attendings, social workers, counselors, and others. Four reviewers polled by Rehabs.com to date rated staff's level of training and experience an average 3.75 out of five stars.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Richmond State Hospital's accommodations vary depending on the service line, but all are co-ed. The Hope and Recovery program consists <strong>of two 32-bed</strong> units. The dual diagnosis program has <strong>two units, each with 30 beds</strong>. These four units are situated within the Residential Treatment Center (RTC), which has a <strong>dining room, canteen, and beauty/barber shop</strong>, along with <strong>laundry facilities and whirlpool baths</strong>.</p> <p>The Recovery and Transition Service Line houses clients in an intimate, unlocked, six-bed home located on the hospital’s property, called Darby House.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The only alum currently surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, rated their overall treatment effectiveness a perfect five stars. Alum Steve rated Richmond State Hospital five stars for meals and nutrition, the staff’s availability and training, the quality of his individual counseling, the quality of group counseling, the frequency of counseling, and staff support. However, Steve provided lower ratings of two and three stars for holistic offerings, leisure activities, and exercise. Loved ones rated the facility four and five out of five stars for family participation, affordability, and counseling options. One loved one rated the hospital five stars in every metric. One anonymous loved one rated Richmond State Hospital’s treatment effectiveness an overall rating of five stars and told Rehabs.com: “My son became healthier mentally and physcially.”</p> <p>Two loved ones gave mixed three star ratings to the staff's level of training and experience. Multiple respondents reported that the staff were not kind.
