<p><strong>ABOUT PORTER-STARKE SERVICES โ€“ KNOX</strong></p> <p>Porter-Starke Services is a 40-year-old non-profit community health organization in Northwest Indiana that operates three treatment facilities. The Knox location provides <strong>day treatment programs for adults, adolescents, and children</strong> struggling with primary and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders</a>. The facility also offers a 24-hour crisis hotline. A second <a href="https://www.rehabs.com/listings/porter-starke-services-2335692040" target="_blank">outpatient clinic is in Valparaiso</a>. Porter-Starke also provides services in more than a dozen facilities run by other organizations. These include a women's residential and a medication-assisted therapy clinic for opioid addictions in Valparaiso. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Before beginning treatment at Porter-Starke Services in Knox, clients undergo an over-the-phone assessment to assist clinicians in developing an individualized plan of care. Some clients receive referrals to other facilities to address needs not met at the Knox location.</p> <p>According to the clinic's website, most treatment programs are based in a <strong>combination of individual counseling and group therapy</strong>. Clients participating in the day treatment program can expect a highly-structured, three-day schedule each week that <strong>incorporates social and vocational skill-building along with psychotherapy</strong>. Throughout their course of treatment, clients select and join variety of groups to attend, which address such topics as parenting, grief and loss, and <a href="https://www.rehabs.com/pro-talk-articles/a-look-at-the-research-supporting-mindfulness-in-addiction-treatment/" target="_blank">mindfulness</a>.</p> <p>In addition to therapeutic programming and education, ongoing medication management and monitoring for psychiatric patients is available. The Knox location also encourages clients and alumni to use the <a href="https://www.mystrength.com/about" target="_blank">wellness app, myStrength</a>, as part of an ongoing aftercare recovery process.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The Porter-Starke Services treatment team consists of about <strong>10 board certified psychiatrists</strong> and dozens of other clinical staff members, including child and adolescent psychologists and master's-level counselors. <strong>Some services are provided in Spanish and Sign Language.</strong> The organization is licensed by the Indiana Division of Mental Health &amp; Addictions and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The only Porter-Starke - Knox alum polled by Rehabs.com to date would not recommend the program to others. While rating their lead counselor four out of five stars, they complained of overly generalized treatment. "The evaluations were not individualized," the anonymous reviewer wrote, also reporting that they attended 96 hours of <strong>court-ordered treatment</strong>. The alum awarded a maximum five stars for the facility's cleanliness and upkeep.</p> <p>By contrast, two out of three alumni rated the facility five out of five stars on Google. These positive reviewers noted that they had been receiving treatment for several years. One alum described staff members as caring, friendly, and "willing to listen." The other agreed, emphasizing the <strong>staff's dedication to providing support for clients with a range of backgrounds and needs</strong>. On the other hand, a third alum represented the clinic as very disorganized.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small></p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Porter-Starke Services accepts most major insurance plans, as well as Medicare and Medicaid. According to the facility's website, evaluation service costs range from $156 to $200 and an hour-long individual counseling session is $116 to $160. <strong>Addiction treatment group sessions are $176</strong> for each three-hour meeting.
