ABOUT LEYDEN FAMILY SERVICE & MENTAL HEALTH CENTER – S.H.A.R.E.

Part of Leyden Family Service & Mental Health Center, a nonprofit behavioral healthcare treatment provider, Start Here Addiction Rehabilitation & Education (S.H.A.R.E.) provides a full continuum of services — residential, outpatient, and aftercare programs —for adult men and women struggling with substance and co-occurring disorders. Located in Schaumburg, III., a suburb of Chicago, S.H.A.R.E. also offers DUI services and medically monitored detoxification.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients may undergo an initial assessment to help clinicians determine the most appropriate course of treatment. Those who are struggling with withdrawal symptoms begin their stay in medically managed detox, which combines medication management, ongoing physician evaluations, nurse monitoring, individual counseling, group therapy, educational lectures, and 12-step meetings.

Once stabilized, clients may move on to S.H.A.R.E.’s residential program, which is highly structured and includes modalities similar to those used in detox. In addition to counseling and 12-step meetings, residential clients also engage in family programs and recreational therapy, as well as nutritional and employment counseling. Clients with co-occurring mental health disorders may also meet with a psychiatrist for consultations and ongoing medication management.

S.H.A.R.E. offers both a traditional and an intensive outpatient treatment track. These programs blend 12-step principles and practices with individual and group counseling sessions, and a specialized outpatient program for DUI offenders is also available. Additionally, S.H.A.R.E. runs an evening aftercare program for alumni of the residential and outpatient programs.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, S.H.A.R.E. employs a qualified, multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, emergency medical technicians, clinical social workers, certified addiction counselors, and licensed professional counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. Four individuals polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided an average rating of four out of five stars for the facility’s overall accommodations.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The three former clients polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing submitted mostly above-average ratings for S.H.A.R.E. and indicated that they approved of the facility. Submitting a perfect rating of five stars for the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders, one anonymous alum characterized the staff as “caring and educated” and the facility as “well maintained.” However, this same reviewer felt that the facility’s food needed improvement and its aftercare support was lacking.

Another alum gave the center an overall score of four out of five stars, but advised potential clients to “Pay attention to what it takes to make you right ! Not what you can get away with.”

On Google, four reviewers provided an average rating of three out of five stars.[1] The two individuals who submitted five-star reviews expressed appreciation for the center’s staff. “GREAT OUTPATIENT THERAPIST A+,” H.W. wrote. The two one-star reviewers shared drastically different opinions, citing communication issues with the staff, trouble scheduling appointments, and an insensitive treatment team. “Told me the meds were fine but that I was just not smart enough to know they were working. When I called, once I found out the doctor had lowered my meds instead of changing them… This place prayes on poor people, because they know we have no recourse,” R.S. wrote.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing praised all aspects of the facility, submitting a rating of five stars for the program’s level of family participation and its overall treatment effectiveness. “Great place and great treatment,” they told Rehabs.com.

However, 15 reviewers on CiteHealth, many of whom identified themselves as loved ones of clients, provided an average rating of just 1.2 out of five stars.[2] Multiple loved ones criticized the facility’s relapse rate, and some reviewers characterized the staff as rude and patronizing. “I thought that they are people to help you - WRONG !!! The staff is there to judge you and talking down to you,” one anonymous reviewer wrote. Another respondent shared a similar perspective, writing, “It is really bad there, as they just don't care. My wife was there last year and she relapsed several times And the doctors told her never to go there again.”

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, Leyden Family Services accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and multiple private insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and Cigna. Additionally, discounts are available for uninsured and underinsured individuals.

[1] https://goo.gl/QMHqVz
[2] http://citehealth.com/rehab-centers/illinois/cities/hoffman-estates/leyden-family-service#reviews
