ABOUT ADVOCATE GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL

Located in Downers Grove, Illinois, the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital’s behavioral health center focuses on treatment for patients struggling with substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility admits adult men and women, and is one of 235 treatment facilities in the state (about 35 percent) to provide specialized treatment for individuals with a dual diagnosis. Treatment options include short-term inpatient care, outpatient (including a partial hospitalization program), crisis stabilization, and ongoing recovery support groups.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility’s approach to dual diagnosis references evidence-based practices. The inpatient program uses short-term hospital care to stabilize patients and begin long-term care treatments. The partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers a well-planned daytime schedule to support treatment and healthcare management activities while allowing clients to return home at night. It is also used to transition patients out of inpatient services.

Following a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, the facility also offers outpatient therapy services in group or individual settings. Treatment includes individual, marriage, group, and family therapy, as well as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

A Caregiver’s Support Group assists those, on an outpatient basis, that face issues related to caring for an elderly patient.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes psychiatrists, nurses, and care managers, as well as social workers, counselors, occupational therapists, activity therapists, and chaplains.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The hospital-based program provides inpatient clients with straightforward rooms featuring temperature controls, support call systems, and in-room device controls such as those for beds and televisions. Cleaning and maintenance is handled by the facility’s staff on a daily basis. Rooms also have phones with outside lines to communicate directly with outside callers.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital as a whole earned an average rating of three out if five stars based on 65 Yelp reviews[1], and 1.8 out of five stars based on five Facebook reviews.[2] Comments were mixed -- satisfied former patients described the facility as well-run and the staff and as helpful and compassionate.
