ABOUT CHESTNUT HEALTH SYSTEMS

Operating for more than 40 years, the Illinois-based Chestnut Health Systems is one of Illinois’ 343 private, non-profit treatment organizations. It provides a full continuum of treatment services for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for substance abuse, psychiatric disorders, and co-occurring mental health disorders.

The Bloomington location is one of nine service centers in the Chestnut Health network, and offers residential and outpatient treatment services for adults adolescents ages 13-18. Additional centers can be found nearby as well as in Central Illinois and around Chicago. Detox is not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Chestnut Health Systems is one of 168 facilities in the state that offer programs specifically for adolescents. The facility utilizes a researched-based assessment tool called the Global Assessment of Individual Needs (GAIN) to create individualized treatment plans for its adolescent clientele. That way, all of the treatment plans are tailored to the individual needs of each client, including specialized treatment approaches for younger clients.

Introduced in an age-appropriate manner, the 12-Step model of recovery is central to the overall program curriculum. Nearly 73 percent of the treatment facilities in the U.S. use the 12-Step program for its structured approach and long-term treatment methods. Other treatment components include individual, group, family counseling, and recreational therapy.

The residential program is one of the 59 long-term, non-hospital programs in the state with treatment typically lasting 60 to 90 days. It focuses on addiction education, communication development, relapse prevention, life skills, decision-making, anger management, and meeting 12-step goals. Family involvement plays a key role in programming. The organization encourages loved ones to participate in weekly educational seminars and family counseling sessions.

To promote physical health, the facility has a full-sized gymnasium, and youth-specific recreational activities are offered daily, as well as meditation. Maryville also provides a variety of on-site school services and G.E.D classes.

Chestnut Health Systems offers aftercare planning, and many residential graduates choose to attend the Maryville facility’s outpatient programs, which include standard outpatient (OP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) options as step-down services. Individuals in the IOP program must attend six to 13 hours of weekly individual or group counseling.

Chestnut Health Systems’ network of facilities also includes an adolescent and young men’s recovery residential home in Bloomington. Upon completing residential treatment, adolescents may opt to reside at the Bloomington facility for two months up to two years to help ensure sustained sobriety and behavioral stability.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Chestnut Health Systems is one of the 149 facilities in Illinois accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
