ABOUT AVITA COMMUNITY PARTNERS - ADDICTIVE DISEASES SERVICES

Avita Community Partners, formerly known as Georgia Mountains Community Services, is a mental health and developmental disabilities services agency. Treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorders is provided through intervention, short-term outpatient counseling, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

Formed more than two decades ago, Avita Community Partners is one of 37 state-run substance abuse treatment programs in Georgia, which make up about 12 percent of all treatment facilities in the state.
The agency's addictive disease services are available at more than a dozen county facilities, including an outpatient clinic that opened in Dawsonville in 2017 and a crisis intervention unit, which offers ambulatory detoxification support.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

This organization takes a stages of change approach to determining what form of treatment is right for each client, recommending more or less intensive programming depending on the client's readiness to address their addiction and participate in recovery. Most programming follows the recovery model for chemical dependency and substance abuse treatment, which prioritizes client strengths, choices, and responsibility

Early stage outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents is offered at some Avita facilities via individual, family, and group counseling and education. The IOP is available at all treatment centers. Counseling and educational sessions address such topics as daily living skills, self-esteem, parenting, problem solving, coping, and stress and anger management. The broader agency supplements addiction treatment with support for employment, nutrition, finances, and physical health.

In 2016, Avita opened a women's residential treatment program with space for 10 women and their dependent children.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Among the treatment team members referenced in a 2014 agency annual report are nurses, psychiatrists, certified addiction counselors, and peer specialists.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one former client polled by Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous female over the age of 60 who received services in Atlanta, gave Avita Community Partners mostly negative feedback. She noted that while they may be suitable for clients with substance use disorder only, the services were not satisfactory for mental health issues alone. The alum gave Avita just one or two out of five stars for its counseling options, its treatment of co-occurring disorders, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its staff's level of training and experience. When asked, on a scale from one to five, if she would recommend the facility, the reviewer gave a rating of one.

On Google, however, Avita Community Partners' behavioral health services earned one five-star rating from Lee who wrote: "Very helpful to the mental health community."

On its Facebook page, which the organization has the ability to edit, Avita Community Partners earned an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars based on 24 reviews.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com, whose family member received services in Gainesville, also indicated that she would not recommend treatment through Avita Community Partners. Her main complaint was that the program was not strict enough and that clients were insufficiently supervised. The reviewer also gave the organization two out of five stars for its family participation, its cleanliness, its counseling options, and its staff's level of training and experience. One area of strength noted was the facility's assistance with physical detoxification.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Thirty one current and former employees submitted Indeed[3] reviews for nine Avita clinics. Their ratings averaged three stars out of five. A common complaint was poor pay and opinions of the work environment were split between positive and critical.

FINANCING

According to the annual report referenced elsewhere in this review, a majority of costs are supported by state and county funding. Medicaid and private insurance are accepted, and some fees are assessed on a sliding scale. In Georgia, it is among the 52 percent of facilities to accepted Medicaid and among the 51 percent to offer sliding scale fees.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2]https://www.facebook.com/pg/avitacommunitypartners/reviews/?ref=page_internal
[3]https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Avita-Community-Partners/reviews
