ABOUT NEXT GENERATION VILLAGE

Set on a remote, lakefront property in central Florida, Next Generation Village is a rehab center for adolescents ages 13 to 17, faced with any number of substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues. The facility provides teens with a full continuum of care, from detox, a variety of residential and outpatient treatment options, to aftercare support.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Far from a one-size-fits-all approach, Next Generation Village assesses nearly every aspect of a teenager’s life, including their substance abuse history, familial and peer relationships, physical health, and educational background. Teens in need of detox receive additional support from cooling rooms for sleeping, massages, and acupuncture.

Depending on their specific needs and circumstances, teens have options to enroll in residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), or standard outpatient programs. Across all levels of care, treatment consists of evidence-based methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family support and involvement, and educational programming with teachers and mentors.

Teens requiring intensive treatment in a structured, supportive environment may benefit from a residential stay. In addition to attending regularly scheduled psychotherapy sessions, teens in gender-specific residential treatment partake in exciting therapeutic undertakings such as hikes and other outdoor-based activities.

Those with mild to moderate issues have access to three levels of outpatient care. The PHP track offers teens six full days of treatment, and allows them to go home each evening. Teens in IOP partake in programming five days per week, and traditional outpatient care consists of one to two individual therapy sessions per week.

Upon graduation, teens receive the additional support of relapse prevention and follow-up counseling sessions while transitioning back to their communities. The facility also provides referrals to 12-step meetings, giving teens more opportunities to share and learn from others in recovery.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Led by a physician with more than 20 years of experience in behavioral healthcare, Next Generation Village employs registered nurses, state-licensed mental health counselors, education counselors, and other non-clinical efforts. Some staff are in recovery themselves, according to the facility's website, making it easier for them to connect with clients.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Next Generation Village houses up to 40 teenagers on a waterfront property, hours from Florida’s big cities. Amenities include a pool, basketball courts, an on-site gym, and a lounge area. A chef prepares three meals daily and caters to special dietary requests. According to its website, "Next Generation Village makes sure each teen is paired with a well-matched roommates who they can relate to."

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Though former clients have yet to be polled by Rehabs.com to date, ratings elsewhere online were mixed. On Google, the facility earned 3.7 out of five stars from 27 reviews at the time of this writing.[1] "This facility is very helpful for those who want to work towards being better, but lacks the ability to help those who are still struggling with the motivation to recover," wrote Natalie in a representative two-star review. Other reviews generally tended to be mixed, praising certain aspects of the facility, such as its location, but condemning its unresponsiveness and staff.

Additionally, there are 21 ratings on the facility's Facebook page, which it has the ability to manage, averaging 3.3 out of five stars.[2] Feedback and reviews were quite polarized, with more either being perfect five-star or low one-star ratings. Sondra wrote in a five-star review: "Awesome place...will refer to everyone I know.....and I would love to work for this place too." In a one-star review, reviewer Wilma wrote, "Unprofessional care. The treatment and therapy were non existent.'

WHAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, two loved ones of former clients offered negative feedback for the treatment of their sons. Both gave just one out of five stars for treatment effectiveness and warned not to send family members here. They wrote that "All the out door activities they (claim) to have are completely untrue" and that "They sat around and watched movies. There was no yoga, no music therapy!"

On Google, Michael, a parent of a former client, wrote: “I have to say that from the intake process to the discharge process to the aftercare support, they are truly a group of highly trained, compassionate and professional people.” Additionally, many parents of former clients who provided one-star ratings on secondary review sites complained of a lack of transparency from staff and management, inappropriate and hasty dispensing of medication, and overall bad treatment.

FINANCING

Treatment costs start at $1,400 per day, $42,000 per month, and $102,000 for 90 days. Next Generation Village does accept private insurances such as Aetna, Cigna, United Behavioral Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and more.

[1] https://goo.gl/qA3eGW
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/NextGenerationVillage/reviews/?ref=page_internal
