ABOUT COMPASS DETOX

From the Miami suburb of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Compass Detox offers is a small, private facility offering medically monitored detox for individuals withdrawing from a range of substances, including alcohol and opioids.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment is split into three phases: evaluation, stabilization, and aftercare.

The initial evaluation investigates for any co-occurring disorders as well as establishing the nature and severity of the addiction. During the stabilization phase, clients are medically monitored around the clock to make sure that their withdrawal from drugs and/or alcohol is as safe and comfortable as possible. Compass Detox does not at present specify which medications it uses to ease the symptoms of withdrawal, though one review left by an alum on Facebook indicated that Suboxone was among them. Compass's treatment isn't solely medical in nature: during this second phase of the program, residents also participate in group therapy sessions.

Although Compass Detox bills aftercare as one of the primary components of treatment, the center does not itself provide extended care. Rather, aftercare is provided in the form of referrals to further treatment at other facilities.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Compass Detox employs a staff of 31, including a psychiatrist, an anesthesiologist, a nurse, a licensed mental health counselor, and a certified addiction professional. Therapists' specialist areas include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused therapy (SFT).

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Compass Detox is a modern, light-filled facility, where residents sleep in rooms for two; each bedroom has two flat-screen TVs and its own bathroom. The center has a garden with a patio, lounge area, and basketball hoop, as well as indoor common spaces, including a home theater, a games room with a pool table, and a snack bar that's open 24/7. Residents can take advantage of yoga and meditation sessions, and the facility's website also lists massage, a nail salon, and a barbershop among its amenities; however, it's not clear whether there's an extra charge for these services.

REVIEWS

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff, however, secondary sites did yield some coverage, and it was mostly positive, with some notes of strong complaint. At the time of this writing, the facility had a 4.6-star average rating based on 32 reviews on Facebook (where the center can manage its own page), and 3.5 stars based on eight reviews on Google.[1] [2] Of the six negative reviews among these 40 ratings, two criticized the center's policy of keeping genders separate, one noted that the facility had lost their clothing, one cited an over-dependence on Suboxone, and D.M. wrote on Facebook: "Horrible place client care is not of their concern," adding that clients clients might be asked to leave if they don't share the owners' religious views.

However, the vast majority of the reports were positive, repeatedly thanking the facility's staff and praising its amenities. "Love the staff and amazing environment. Easily the best detox in Florida," D.B. wrote in a representative review.

FINANCING

Compass Detox's website notes that the organization accepts numerous insurance policies, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, and United.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/CompassDetoxFL/reviews/?ref=page_internal
[2] https://goo.gl/Kmh593
