<p><strong>ABOUT ORANGE PARK MEDICAL</strong></p> <p>Located in Orange Park, FL, a suburb of Jacksonville, Orange Park Medical Center’s behavioral health department is one of the only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/FL16.pdf" target="_blank">45 (6.3 percent)</a> facilities in the state to offer <strong>inpatient treatment</strong> and one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/FL16.pdf" target="_blank">315 (44 percent) with an <strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults</strong> struggling with substance abuse issues</a>, mental illness, and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>. Crisis intervention is also available, but the hospital does not specify if detoxification services are on-site.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Upon intake, patients may participate in an initial psychiatric, and if applicable, substance abuse assessment to determine an appropriate treatment approach. Mental illness treatment is designed to help patients learn to manage stress, improve social skills, and develop relationship skills. The overall goal of the short-term inpatient program is to stabilize the patient and refer them to a less-restrictive level of care.</p> <p>The hospital’s intensive outpatient program utilizes <strong>cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques</strong> to identify the link between irrational thinking and destructive behaviors. Typically involving <strong>11 sessions over one month</strong>, IOP includes <strong>group therapy sessions, ongoing medication management, journaling, and family therapy,</strong> when appropriate. Specialized groups on substance abuse may also be available.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Orange Park Medical Center’s behavioral health department employs a team comprised of psychiatrists, therapists, substance abuse and mental health counselors, psychiatric nurses, and behavioral health technicians. Additionally, <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/report_3059/ShortReport-3059.pdf" target="_blank">98.4 percent of treatment facilities in Florida have higher education requirements for staff</a>. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date provided the staff's level of training and experience with a five-star, a four-star, and a two-star rating.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS AND AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>As a hospital-based program, Orange Park Medical Center’s <strong>24-bed behavioral health unit</strong> accommodates many clients, as the typical number of individuals at a hospital inpatient treatment facility is only <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">13 clients</a> at any given time. Orange Park Medical Center offers <strong>24-hour nursing care and medical attention</strong> and, according to the facility’s website, the unit offers a “warm and compassionate environment.” In the three surveys submitted to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, the facility's cleanliness earned <strong>four out of five stars</strong> from all three respondents.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole former client polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing <strong>praised most aspects of the facility</strong>, offering ratings of four stars for the facility’s counseling options, holistic offerings, exercise & leisure activities, and admissions & discharge procedures. Perfect five-star ratings were awarded for the staff's level of training and experience and the center's ability to treat co-occurring disorders. “The care of the medical staff and therapists were wonderful,” the alum wrote. Though this individual noted "cleanliness" as a facility weakness, he still awarded five out of five stars to accommodations & amenities. The only other criticism was for the lack of family participation, which he rated just two stars.</p> <p>On Orange Park’s Facebook page, which the facility can manage, Orange Park averaged an overall rating of 3.5 out of five stars across 902 reviews at the time of this writing, however, none of these reviewers mentioned the behavioral health unit in particular.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> On Google, the hospital as a whole received a lower rating of 2.8 out of five stars from 211 users to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> Many critics described the hospital as "dirty," but several other reviewers were generally satisfied with the quality of care they received. The behavioral health unit in particular did not receive feedback.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date provided <strong>mixed opinions concerning the facility</strong>. One survey respondent, K.D., gave ratings of four out of five stars for the level of family participation and the facility's cleanliness, and commented, "Very clean and organized." However, she submitted low, two-star ratings for exercise & leisure activities, holistic offerings, and the center's ability to treat co-occurring disorders. She cited the lack of “follow through” and a need for “longer treatment options” as facility weaknesses. When asked if she would recommend the facility, she offered a rating of only two out of five stars.</p> <p>Quite contrastingly, the other anonymous loved one gave four- out of five-star ratings for the center's exercise & leisure activities, its holistic offerings, the facility’s counseling options, the level of family participation, and the center's ability to treat co-occurring disorders. This individual described Orange Park Medical Center as “nice” and added, “They were good to us.” When asked if they would recommend the facility they gave Orange Park four out of five stars.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Orange Park Medical Center accepts all forms of private insurance, including plans by Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and more.
