The center offers medical detox, residential services, and outpatient treatment.

River Point Behavioral Health is authorized to accept involuntary clients under the Baker Act. The program treats psychiatric illness and chemical dependency concurrently, and describes its care as multidisciplinary and individualized.

Treatment options for substance abuse consist of a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient (IOP) program. These programs are offered in the daytime or the evening in order to suit a variety of schedules, and they include nursing care and weekly psychiatric oversight.

For adults and adolescents struggling primarily with mental health disorders, residential treatment is available. It’s a low-key and somewhat clinical center, with an indoor basketball court, a few small lawns, a canteen-style dining room, and an outdoor swimming pool.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the two alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, one was negative and one mixed. The respondent who left the mixed review gave the center five out of five stars for its overall effectiveness, but indicated that treatment was not in-depth, giving the center one or two stars for its holistic and leisure options, and three stars for its counseling options, writing: “They were kind and understanding, willing to help you through it The treatment really wasn't extensive.”

The other reviewer indicated that they would not recommend treatment at River Point, and gave the center just one star for its staff support and the overall quality of its individual counseling — though they awarded it four stars for the overall quality of its group counseling. “If you have insurance you are "diagnosed" and Baker Acted. On the day your insurance runs out, you are suddenly recovered and well again!!!” the anonymous reviewer wrote.

At the time of this writing, additional reviews on Google are mixed. The facility has received 1.9 out of five stars based on 47 reviews on this secondary review site.[1] Reviewers cited poor treatment and misdiagnosis. “I agree with everyone speaking negatively about this place. It is awful. It does feel like a prison. The staff and nurses mistreat people,” Mariah wrote in a representative review on Google.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date would strongly recommend treatment at this facility. “The staff was very helpful after we finally got past the lobby to admissions. From that moment on everything went well,” the anonymous reviewer wrote, giving the center four or five stars in almost all of the 15 evaluated treatment metrics, including its overall effectiveness, family program, and treatment for co-occurring disorders.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from former clients, 11 reviewers left ratings on Indeed that averaged 2.7 out of five stars.[2] Giving four stars, an anonymous reviewer wrote: "River Point is a great place for those of us that don't like to do the same thing day in and day out. Each patient has their own story and own needs that we cater to." Another gave five stars and wrote: "I would definitely recommend this place to work. The culture is team oriented."

Still, a one-star reviewer wrote: "This company only cares about their $$ profits, not patient care or staff satisfaction. Staff is very poorly trained, it is severely and dangerously understaffed."

CONCLUSION

River Point accepts Medicare, all Medicaid HMOs, TriCare, and private insurance. Company representatives will contact insurers to verify clients’ benefits.

In March 2015, Modern Healthcare reported that River Point Behavioral Health was under investigation for alleged fraudulent billing to Medicaid and Medicare. Rehabs.com was unable to uncover an official facility response to the allegation at the time of this writing — and according to its website, the facility has now been reinstated as a provider for both Medicare and Medicaid.

Additionally, BuzzFeed reported in December 2016 that River Point had held a six-year-old boy against his parents’ wishes for three days. “Federal regulators have been looking into whether River Point misused Florida’s involuntary commitment laws to hold patients at the hospital who did not need treatment,” the piece reported. The BuzzFeed article also noted that UHS “said it ‘absolutely rejects’ any claim that it held patients solely for financial gain."

[1] https://goo.gl/3eRVLJ
[2] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/River-Point-Behavioral-Health/reviews
